OJT REFLECTION
My internship at PhilHealth has been a truly transformative experience, both personally and professionally. When I first walked into the office, I was nervous and unsure of what to expect. Now, looking back, I see how much I’ve grown—not just in terms of technical ability, but in confidence, communication, and workplace adaptability. Throughout my time as an OJT, I had the opportunity to apply what I learned in school to real-world IT tasks. From configuring computers and setting up printers to troubleshooting network issues and managing OS tickets, I gradually became more comfortable with responsibilities that once felt intimidating. As I practiced and received feedback from my supervisors, my skills sharpened, and my decision-making became faster and more accurate. What stood out most during my evaluation was the recognition of this progress. My mentors saw that I wasn’t just completing tasks—I was learning, adapting, and contributing meaningfully to the team. It was a proud moment to realize I had gained the trust of my colleagues and even had employees coming directly to me for help with technical issues. Beyond the technical side, this internship helped me become more aware of the importance of soft skills. Communicating clearly with non-technical users, managing my time effectively, and working well within a team were just as critical as knowing how to configure a PC. I also learned the importance of staying professional and approachable, especially when under pressure.
One of the things I appreciated most about PhilHealth was its diverse and inclusive environment. Working alongside people of different ages, backgrounds, and experiences made me feel welcome and encouraged me to see the value of different perspectives. This gave me confidence that I, too, have a place in the professional world, and that success is about contribution and attitude more than anything else. My academic background and part-time work experiences helped prepare me for this journey. They taught me how to follow instructions, meet deadlines, and collaborate with others—skills that proved essential in the workplace. Still, this internship added a new layer of learning that can’t be gained in the classroom alone. As I look ahead, I know this experience will be a strong foundation for my post-graduate plans. It confirmed my interest in pursuing a career in IT support and has motivated me to continue learning, gain certifications, and expand my professional network. I’m planning to attend industry seminars, apply for entry-level roles, and keep in touch with the mentors and colleagues who have guided me.
In the end, my OJT at PhilHealth was not just about fulfilling hours—it was about growth, discovery, and laying the groundwork for the career I want to build. I’m thankful for the opportunity and excited for what comes next
