The history of the Navajo Hogan is closely tied with the history of the Navajo people. They arose roughly around 1000 CE, in the Four Corners region: lands bordering the modern states of Utah, Colorado, Arizona, and New Mexico. The Navajo adopted and adapted multiple construction techniques through their relationship with the Ancestral Puebloans, a nearby tribe situated in Mesa Verde.
Cultures and ideas were naturally exchanged between the neighboring tribes, leading to major advancements in technology. One of these developments was the Hogan which still prevails today as a practical and enduring home.
