Aaliyah Gayles, a standout basketball player from Spring Valley High School in Las Vegas, was shot multiple times during a house party in North Las Vegas on April 16, 2022.
The incident occurred around 11:15 p.m. at a residence on Support Street, near Lone Mountain Road and Simmons Street.
Gayles sustained injuries to her lower body and underwent two surgeries; her injuries were considered survivable.
Three other individuals, including two minors, were also injured in the shooting.
The shooter remained unidentified as of the latest reports.
Despite this traumatic event, Gayles demonstrated remarkable resilience. Less than two months after the shooting, she graduated from high school.
She later signed a letter of intent to play basketball for the University of Southern California (USC).Gayles' determination and strength have been widely recognized, and she continues to inspire many with her commitment to overcoming adversity and pursuing her athletic dreams.
