Logging in

Credentials

Every Canisius College student has a set of credentials for logging into (or authenticating in) college-supplied internet resources. These are mailed to you once you are enrolled at the college. They include your username and password.

Your username doesn't change and is the basis for your official Canisius email address: username@canisius.edu (or username@my.canisius.edu).

You have a password that, at first, is a random series of characters. But you can and should periodically change the password to personalize it, and make it more secure.

Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)

In addition to your password, use Multi-Factor Authentication to secure your Canisius account. This can be a set of security questions, an additional email address, phone number, or a mobile authenticator app. When using a new device, you will need to enter additional information to log into your Canisius account, but it means that bad actors cannot access your Canisius resources with your password alone.

You can learn about your Multi-Factor Authentication options here, and can set it up within the MyCanisius Portal

MyCanisius

MyCanisius, or the Portal, is a handy place. You can log in there by clicking the MyCanisius link on the Canisius College Website, or by going directly to (and bookmarking) my.canisius.edu. Once logged in there, in the lefthand menus you'll find everything you need to be a student. And for most of these resources you won't need to log in separately.

A common daily habit for students is to log into the MyCanisius Portal, and under My Applications, click "Gmail" to check their email, and then "Desire2Learn" to visit their classes. This hits the important points for daily coursework and campus activities. It also logs you into your Canisius Google account in your browser, so if a professor shared something securely with your class via Google Drive, you'll have no trouble accessing it.

This tutorial shows you the basics of using and customizing the MyCanisius Portal.
