Behavior Specialist,Monmouth County SPCA, Eatontown, NJ

Working under the supervision of the Director of Operations, and closely with the Animal Care Manager, the Behavior Specialist will work alongside, and support, the Animal Care Team in identifying dogs in need of behavioral support and subsequently create behavior protocols for at risk dogs at the shelter. The Behavior Specialist will work with staff and volunteers to train them on how to carry out those protocols successfully. The Behavior Specialist will have bi-weekly scheduled meetings with Animal Care Staff to help train and support them as they build confidence handling dogs; this may include one-on-one sessions with staff and their “project” dog, group obedience classes for Animal Care Staff and Q&A sessions. The Behavior Specialist may be asked to assist the Canine Adoption Behavior Manager in offering post adoption training support, through scheduled appointments, to adopters in need of behavioral support with their newly adopted pet.

Nature Programs Educator, Corvallis Environmental Center, Corvallis, OR

The Corvallis Environmental Center is seeking a part-time Nature Programs Educator to join our education team. This position will primarily support PAGES/PAGÍNAS, an afterschool program offered in partnership with local elementary schools. The Nature Programs Educator will work directly in classrooms three afternoons per week, leading small group rotations of elementary-aged students. Marine Science Education Internship, Pigeon Key Foundation, TX

Internship provides weekly stipend and on-island housing, as well as food when groups are present. Marine Science Education Intern Responsibilities: **This list is not exhaustive but will give interested applicants a better idea of what jobs will be required of them. We are a small organization. We do not hire a janitorial, cooking, or maintenance staff. Each person living and working on the island is required to pitch in. If you do not agree with the statement “if a task needs doing, it is in my job description” please do not apply for this internship. ** • Marine Education (55% of internship) o Lead both classroom and hands-on learning activities for students age K-college on a variety of marine science subjects. Hands-on activities include fishing, kayaking, snorkeling, and invertebrate collection. o Days will be long (sometimes 6am-10pm) and often include weekends. Bat Monitoring Assistant - AmeriCorps, Stewards Individual Placements, Boulder City, NV

Stewards Individual Placements (Stewards), a program of Conservation Legacy, provides individuals with AmeriCorps service and career opportunities to strengthen communities and preserve our natural resources. Participants serve with federal agencies, tribal governments, and nonprofits to provide institutional capacity, develop community relationships, and support ecosystem health. Stewards in partnership with the NPS Mojave Desert Inventory & Monitoring Network (MOJN) will host a Bat Monitoring Assistant.

 The Bat Monitoring Assistant is an AmeriCorps position that will assist in collecting and managing data about bats within the parks of the Mojave Desert Network (MOJN). The MOJN is one of 32 Monitoring Networks across the NPS, using information gathered for planning, research, education, and to help guide decisions related to park management.  This position will serve the public by supporting long term monitoring of bats and ensuring that data is collected using sound science and making that data available to the public. This position helps support the Gold Standard of Science Executive Order (EO 14303). Some bat species in the eastern United States have been declining due to White-Nose Syndrome (WNS) for almost 20 years. The fungus responsible for WNS has now spread across most of the country and has recently been detected within the Mojave Desert. Less is known about the impact of WNS within the western US, so monitoring of populations is essential in better identifying which species may be impacted and provide park managers with the most up to date information when making management decisions.

The purpose of this position is to assist the bat monitoring crew lead with implementation of the MOJN bat monitoring plan for the 2027 season which includes passive acoustic monitoring following a modified version of NABat as well as WNS surveillance sampling which includes capturing bats to take swab samples to detect the presence of the fungus that causes WNS. This position is primarily focused on field data collection, although office projects will also be required. Regular overnight travel and “car” camping will occur (government vehicles and most camping equipment will be provided), often in backcountry locations with no amenities. Long drives on highways and unimproved dirt roads are often necessary to get to remote sites.

Avian Field Technician, Bowman, Ft. Stockon, TX

Habitat Specialist, Pheasants Forever, Columbia, SC

This position is part of a partnership between Pheasants and Quail Forever (QF), The Longleaf Alliance, South Carolina Department of Natural Resources (SCDNR), and The Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS) and several other agencies. Under the direction of the Quail Forever SC Prescribed Fire Coordinator, incumbents will conduct prescribed fire and habitat management work on cooperating private land as well as targeted public lands within designated priority geographies within South Carolina as part of the state’s Quail management program. These positions are full-time, permanent employees of Quail Forever and will receive daily leadership from QF staff. This position will be in the Columbia, SC area. This position is currently funded through Sept 30, 2027. The continuation of the position is dependent on the acquisition of additional funding.

Muskrat Monitoring and Sampling Technician, Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, Il

We are seeking 4 field technicians for muskrat monitoring and sampling operations in Illinois. This project aims to evaluate muskrat movement behavior, space use, survival, dispersal, and pathogen prevalence across contrasting landscapes to help inform restoration and management decisions. This project is being conducted through the Center for Wildlife Sustainability Research at Southern Illinois University in collaboration with the Illinois Department of Natural Resources. Selected candidates will carry out an intensive effort to conduct telemetry monitoring of collared muskrats as well as water and sediment sampling in west-central or southern Illinois. New England Cottontail Winter Field Technician, SUNY ESF, Putnam and Dutchess Counties, NY

We are conducting a study to help the New York Department of Environmental Conservation determine the abundance of New England cottontail in New York. In these efforts we will be collecting data to evaluate cottontail demographics, predation, and the impacts of habitat management on cottontail populations. In the latter half of the season, we will be aiding a master’s student to determine the fine-scale movements of cottontail and developing a novel technique to attempt to find cottontail nests. Zoological Conservation Assistant, Palo Alto Junior Museum and Zoo, Palo Alto, CA

The City’s Community Services Department is seeking a part-time Zoological Conservation Assistant (Zoological Assistant - H) to assist with the planning and implementation of its wildlife conservation program at the Palo Alto Junior Museum and Zoo. The Junior Museum and Zoo is a local family destination that serves children, birth to age 8, through its science exhibits and zoo, and children to age 11 through its school programs and summer camps. Approximately 117,000 visitors enjoy the Museum and Zoo each year and 23,000 take part in its science lessons and field trips at the Museum, in local schools, and in local open spaces. The Junior Museum’s mission is to engage a child’s curiosity in science and nature, and its zoo works to support animal conservation efforts in natural spaces. Animals at the JMZ provide children with age-appropriate examples of interesting adaptations, habitats, or wildlife conservation programs. Special installations bring children nose-to-nose with some animals, while other elements encourage imaginative play, support whole body movement, and stimulate multiple senses. Zoological Assistants work with a team of colleagues, including Animal Care Specialists under the direction of a Curator and Zoo Director, all of whom are responsible for excellence in the care and wellbeing of the animal collection (60 species and 400 specimens) and associated landscapes and habitats.  The animal collection includes, but is not limited to, arthropods, freshwater fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds, and mammals.  The position helps provide all aspects of the daily care of the collection of exotic and domestic animals.

We are within 2 hours of Yellowstone National Park and Grand Teton National Park, and just 3 hours from the Salt Lake City International Airport. The zoo is a 7-acre (but expanding!) community attraction that welcomes over 100,000 visitors each season. The zoo is closed to the public during the winter months.

Animal Care Professional - Mixed Mammals, Naples Zoo, Naples, FL

The Animal Care Professional - Mixed Mammals position is a full-time position. This position will involve working with all animals in all areas of the Mixed Mammals department. The areas include the following species: giraffe, zebra, duiker, tortoise, cranes, giant anteater, agouti, tapir, capybara, and crested screamer.  Under the general direction of the area Field Supervisor, this position will be responsible for the daily husbandry, feeding, enrichment and training of animals in the assigned areas. Duties will include but are not limited to maintaining cleanliness of animal habitats, assisting with veterinary procedures, operating pool pump systems, identifying and procuring browse off site, developing and implementing training plans, and keeping daily records while following Naples Zoo policies and protocols. This position will also require guest interaction through scheduled keeper talks, Zoo Camp and possible media events.  This position will regularly work with other department keepers in a team setting as well as independently. Keepers are required to work in extreme weather conditions typical of South Florida and have the physical ability to lift or move up to 50 pounds, work on varied uneven terrain, climb ladders and ride a bicycle with an attached cart. Preferred experience in an AZA accredited zoological facility in addition to an Associate’s degree in a Zoological science or a related Bachelor’s degree. Candidates must be able to work weekends, weekdays and holidays.
