A MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL ROGER DAVIS
Dear North Main Families,
As we wrap up the month of January, I want to take a moment to extend a heartfelt thank you to all of our families for their continued support. We’ve had an amazing month filled with enriching experiences, and none of this would have been possible without your involvement. A special thank you to everyone who participated in our Multicultural Night—it was such a vibrant celebration of diversity and culture! Additionally, our District-wide Coffee and Chat event was a wonderful opportunity for us to connect and engage in meaningful conversations. We are so grateful for our strong community!
Looking ahead, February is filled with exciting events and important celebrations. This month, we will be honoring Black History Month and American Heart Month. To help educate our students, we will alternate our morning announcements with fascinating facts about Black history and helpful tips about heart health. We encourage everyone to take part in these conversations as we celebrate both our heritage and our well-being.
This Friday, February 7th, our PTA Family Dance and Tricky Tray Fundraiser for St. Jude is sure to be a fantastic event. We are looking forward to seeing you there and raising money for such an important cause. Friday, February 14th, is Wear Red for Heart Health Day! We are excited to see everyone in red to raise awareness about heart health. We are also in the final stretch of preparing for our school musical, The Wizard of Oz! Our opening night is scheduled for Friday, February 28th, at Central Valley Elementary. It’s going to be a magical experience, and we can’t wait to share it with all of you!
As we continue through the winter months, please make sure your child is dressed appropriately for the colder weather. We want everyone to stay warm and comfortable as we navigate these chilly days.
Finally, I want to remind everyone of the importance of consistent school attendance. Every day your child is present, they are gaining valuable academic and social experiences that help them grow in a safe and nurturing environment. Please continue to make every effort to ensure your child is at school so they can maximize their potential.
Thank you again for being such an integral part of the North Main family. We are so fortunate to have such an engaged and supportive community. Here’s to another great month ahead!

February is Heart Awareness Month
Did you know….
The human heart is about the same size as your fist.
The human heart beats around 100,000 times a day.
A baby and child’s heart works just as hard as an adult heart.
The heart is both a muscle and a pump.
There are simple ways to keep your heart healthy this month and ALL year long! Show your heart some LOVE by focusing on these key tips.
~ Eat healthy foods low in fat and sugar, fruits, vegetables, whole grains, nuts, beans, fish, chicken and lean meat
~ Drink at least 8 glasses of water a day
~ Sleep : School age children 9-11 hrs/day
Teenagers 8-10 hrs/day
Adults 7-9 hrs/day
~ Exercise is needed to keep our heart healthy and strong
Children 60 minutes of physical activity/day
Adults 30 minutes of physical activity/day
Some easy ways to get physically active as a family that you can all enjoy;
Turn off the tv or video games and go for a family walk, bike ride or hike
Turn up the music and have a dance off
Play tag or hide and seek
~Share the LOVE
Along with keeping your heart healthy by eating nutritious foods and exercise it’s important to express feelings and spend time with those you love; eating together as a family, reading a book or reading to someone, calling a friend or relative, writing in a personal journal, or simply cuddling or playing with your pet.

WHEN TO KEEP A CHILD HOME WITH ILLNESS
It can be hard to know when to send children to school if they tell you that they do not feel well. Usually, the best place for them is in school, but there are some times when keeping them home to rest or call for an appointment with your health care provider is NECESSARY.
Please keep your child home and/or contact your child’s doctor for:
Fever greater than 100.4° OR 100° if your child is not able to focus in class
Vomiting and/or diarrhea within the last 24 hours
Severe sore throat along with fever and feeling ill for more than 48 hours, or after exposure to Strep throat infection
Honey-crusted sores around the nose or mouth or rash on other body parts
Large amounts of mucous (liquid) from their nose, with face pain or headache
Severe ear pain or fluid coming from the ear
Severe headache, especially with fever
We are reminding all M-W families to please have arrangements in place for your child in the event they need to be picked up due to an illness or injury and to make sure your child’s school Main Office is aware.
Influenza (flu) and RSV are both respiratory viruses that usually circulate during the winter and generally affect younger children. Symptoms include: Runny nose • Decrease in appetite • Coughing • Sneezing • Fever • Wheezing.
Norovirus (Stomach virus/stomach flu) symptoms include vomiting, diarrhea, stomach cramps, headache and chills.
Please keep children home when they have a fever OR are ill with any RSV/flu AND Norovirus-like symptoms. They should remain home the next school day after the fever ends and should not come to school if they continue to run a fever greater than 100.4° without the use of fever-reducing medication.
If your child has a fever, it is not a good idea to give them medicine (like Tylenol or Advil) and send them to school. As soon as the medicine wears off, the fever may return and you will be called to pick up your child.
If your child feels worse or does not get better in 1-2 days, call a healthcare provider (doctor) and do not send them to school.
Please call your building's school nurse with any concerns or questions. We appreciate your cooperation in helping maintain a healthy learning environment for all students.
