Class of 2026 Senior Salute Information:
Dear Class of 2026 families and students,

Please note:

Approximately 8-9 students will appear each day from Wednesday, April 15 through Thursday, June 25.
No names will be posted on May 24-26 over Memorial Day weekend or on June 19 for Juneteenth.
The signs will update each day.
The schedule will be posted on the Class of 2026 page of the High School website.
MARK YOUR CALENDAR SO YOU DO NOT MISS YOUR CHILD’S NAME/PHOTO OP!
Unfortunately with more than 560 students, we are not able to run names a second time.

The county’s student artists, musicians, performers, photographers, and creative spirits were celebrated at the Orange-Ulster BOCES Humanities Honoree Awards Breakfast, held April 23, 2026, at the Otterkill Golf Club.
It was a truly inspiring morning recognizing the talent and dedication of these outstanding students. The two honorees from MWHS were Valery Canales Medrano and Sophia Niederberger. The National Anthem was also performed by Sophia Niederberger. 🎶🎨🎭💜
Monroe-Woodbury High School senior Cameron Brown was part of a three-person team that earned first-place honors and was crowned state champion in Welding Fabrication at the SkillsUSA New York State Conference, held this past weekend in Syracuse.
Cameron was joined by teammates Patrick Frawley and Brady Witkoski of Minisink Valley. They will be heading to Nationals in Atlanta in June!
The SkillsUSA Welding Fabrication competition requires a team of three students to use their welding and fabrication skills to build a designed project from the provided material. The project is constructed by the competitors based on provided prints.
They were part of a 46-student delegation representing the SkillsUSA Orange-Ulster BOCES Chapter. More than 100 schools from across New York showcased their skills in career and technical education pathways ranging from welding fabrication to culinary arts and digital cinema.
The Orange-Ulster BOCES chapter had eight students earn medals in welding fabrication, medical terminology, nail care, carpentry, early childhood education and medical assisting.
Congratulations, Cameron! 🥇
Student Activities are going strong at MWHS!
Diverse Minds, Unified Hearts, in partnership with SEPTA, is designed to unify students and staff. From April 6 to April 10, this weeklong event celebrated diverse abilities and promoted inclusion within the MWHS community.
On Monday, students were invited to make the promise for inclusivity to create an environment where those with disabilities are fully included in all aspects of life. Students were able to participate in the Kindness Clothespin Activity presented by Mrs. Wright during lunch periods. Students also participated in inclusive PE activities presented by the PE department on Monday and Tuesday.
On Tuesday, MWHS held a building-wide "Embracing Inclusivity with Rock, Paper, Scissors" contest. Students were given colorful strands of beads to play Rock, Paper, Scissors with others to win prizes, encouraging them to interact with peers they may not normally engage with.
On Wednesday, students had the opportunity to visit the disabilities and inclusivity book display presented by Mrs. Sherman, MWHS Librarian. Students were also invited to wear their favorite, vibrant color to celebrate inclusivity, and the Kindness Clothespin Activity continued through lunch periods.
Dr. Barden, Mrs. Goedken, Mrs. Roe, Mrs. Caputo, and Mrs. Novi presented "Walk in Our Shoes: Exploring Disability & Empathy" activities on Thursday. This program offered students the opportunity to explore simulated challenges that individuals with disabilities experience, encouraging a deeper appreciation for inclusion.
The week concluded with the theme of "Crusaders Choose Love". Students were invited to wear purple, and James McLeod, "That Vitiligo Guy", presented his inspiring assembly "A force of positivity, shaping bodies and minds through self-love and inclusivity" to our students.
A big thank you to everyone, particularly SEPTA, for making this week happen. 💜🫶
On April 22, the Spanish V class visited the El Repertorio Español theatre to see the play we studied in class. It was a fantastic opportunity for them to see the text come to life.
Afterward, the class visited El Mercado Little Spain at Hudson Yards, where students had the chance to expand their palates and try some authentic tapas! It was a successful day of immersion.
The sunrise was picture-perfect this past Saturday for the annual Hudson Valley Honor Flight. This incredible organization transports local veterans to Washington, D.C. to visit their memorials at no cost.
Among those on board were Crusaders, Maryella Kearney and varsity baseball captain Liam Hayes, who served as youth guardians. In this vital role, guardians are paired with veterans to ensure their trip is safe, comfortable and deeply personal. Prior to departure, the community gathered together to celebrate these men and women who sacrificed so much for their country.
It was an unforgettable experience for the students and a well-deserved tribute to our nation’s heroes. 💜🇺🇲
On April 21, 2026, MW hosted the 4th annual MWHS Job Fair. Students and families packed the small gym to check out job and career opportunities from local businesses and agencies participating in the event. Special thanks to Mr. Conway for organizing the event, as well as our staff and event participants for making the job fair a success and helping our students springboard into promising careers! 💼💜
Students from Mrs. Rickli’s and Mrs. Lee’s Baking & Pastry Arts classes participated in a flavor pairing cake competition. Each kitchen group created a unique dessert, pairing their mini bundt cakes with sauces, frostings, garnishes, and fruit to showcase both flavor and creativity.
Students were judged on presentation, creativity, technique, and taste by faculty and administration volunteers. The students did an outstanding job, and the judges were highly impressed with the quality and originality of their work. 🧑🍳🍰💜

All students enrolled at Monroe-Woodbury Central School District are eligible to receive a healthy breakfast and lunch in school at no charge to your household each day of the 2025-2026 school year.
All students will be able to participate in these meal programs on the first day of school without having to pay a fee or submit an application. All schools provide a breakfast program for students upon entry into school and a lunch program for students in the cafeteria.
School meal programs offer breakfast and lunch meals that meet strict federal nutrition standards, aligned with the Dietary Guidelines for Americans and are planned with student preferences in mind. If packing food from home, students can add to their home brought lunch at no cost by choosing at least three of the five items offered, (e.g., low fat milk, proteins, whole grains, vegetables, and fruits), one of which must be a vegetable or fruit. The Distraction-Free Schools New York State law, which was passed as part of the 2026 state budget, aims to promote student mental health and student success by prohibiting student use of personal electronic devices from the time students arrive at school until dismissal. This law goes into effect at the start of the 2025-26 school year.
The law applies to students in grades UPK-12 and bans the use of smartphones, tablets, smartwatches, earbuds, wireless headphones, and other internet-enabled devices. School-issued devices are exempt and will continue to be an important instructional tool in the classroom.
At the Board of Education meeting on July 23, the Board approved the Students and Personal Electronic Devices Policy. This policy addresses how the law will be enforced in our schools, as well as exemptions and exceptions. Families may request an exemption under specific circumstances, such as for documented medical or disability reasons. If you believe your child qualifies for an exemption, please complete the online Exemption Request form. All requests will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis by the district's Exemption Review Committee. Submission of this form does not guarantee approval, but it is the first step in the review process.
For more information, visit our Distraction Free-Schools page.
