Research & Evaluation of the SBHC

Many of the standards for SBHCs were used to design the MVRHS SBHC feasibility study, but should also be used for ongoing evaluation once an SBHC is developed. ACCESS: To what extent are School-based health center (SBHC) services feasible, easily accessible, and designed to eliminate or diminish barriers to care and participation by students and their families (availability of services and physical plant)?

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:  To what extent are SBHC services currently delivered in accordance with professional standards and by qualified licensed and/or registered staff at MVRHS, and in partnership (formal/informal) with local health professionals/organizations?

CONTINUITY OF CARE: To what extent is MVRHS positioned as an SBHC site based on how it develops a collaborative relationship with the students, parents or guardians, the school health program, and other health care providers in the student's community?

QUALITY MEASUREMENT: To what extent is an SBHC at MVRHS feasibly able to comply with a program that monitors and evaluates the appropriateness and effectiveness of the recommended services provided to students, etc.?

MEDICAL RECORDS: To what extent is MVRHS able to comply with the record-keeping system that an SBHC establishes so that consistency, confidentiality, and security of records in documenting significant student health information and the delivery of health care services?

MANAGEMENT AND CLINICAL STRUCTURE: What is the recommended SBHC model that would comply with all standards above and operate according to written management and clinical protocols that ensure that health services are delivered to students in an organized manner and in accordance with evidence-based medical practices?
