Who: Open to all educators at all grade levels (K-12)
Purpose: Everyday Speech's SEL curriculum and platform has been requested by MVYPS teachers and specialists for the past couple of years, and now EDS has a 9-12 curriculum that all MVYPS educators can access. In this session MVYPS educators in grades K-12 will explore Everyday Speech's SEL curriculum through an onboarding session with Kim Garrison, MVYPS Behavioral Health Coordinator.
Educators who are new to EDS will also have an opportunity to engage in the curriculum, set up their personal account, and explore the use of lessons with students. If you already have an account, you can use this time to engage in academic planning and integrating EDS curriculum into your lessons/units and to explore some of the new features of EDS.
NOTE: Everyday Speech is not intended to replace any SEL curriculum that is currently being used within MVYPS K-12 schools. Its lessons and curriculum, however, provide the chance for integrating additional resources into an MTSS model.
Objectives:
Participants will be able to access curriculum through the Everyday Speech platform.
Participants will have a broad understanding of the scope and sequence of the curriculum, and other ways that lessons and resources can be integrated into MTSS at each tier, as well as into their core curriculum.
Participants will know where to access new features of EDS, as well as how to navigate the curriculum and its support resources.
Time: 12:30 -1:30 pm OR 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm
If you do not already have an EDS account, please sign up by 3:30 pm, October 10th.

Emphasis on emotional welfare of students
Who: All MVYPS educators and staff interested in learning the foundations and theory behind Collaborative Problem Solving*.
Time: Self-directed, self-paced virtual learning series [2 hours total]
You do not have to complete all of this module today, however, in order to get credit towards PDPs, you do need to complete it by June 18th. Anyone who has started the training in the past and would like to complete it may do so by that date.
Purpose: MVYPS has worked with Think:Kids to provide MVYPS educators and staff free access to this learning module.
This 2-hour, self-paced course introduces the basic principles of Collaborative Problem Solving, an innovative, trauma-informed, and evidence-based approach to understanding and helping kids and adults with behavioral challenges. The principles of Collaborative Problem Solving® will be discussed, while outlining how the approach is uniquely suited to the needs of today's educators and students. The CPS approach aligns with CASEL's 5 core competencies, integrates with MTSS frameworks, PBIS, and restorative practices, is evidence-based, neurobiologically and trauma-informed, and child and family-centered.
Participants learn a more empathic and accurate understanding of what causes unmet expectations and challenging behavior and are exposed to an overview of the three key components of the approach. These courses lay the foundation for attending Essential Foundation in Collaborative Problem Solving (Level 1).
Objectives:
Understand what really causes challenging behavior or unmet expectations in others.
Discover the limitations of motivational approaches as a solution to unwanted behavior.
Learn three ways to respond to unwanted behavior and the best times to use them.
See how the approach can positively change interactions and outcomes with youth and adults.
Location: A link to the learning platform will be provided upon registration. Please register here by 3:30 pm, October 10th.
