Tepees
The Native Americans made their homes, called tepees, from bison hides.
To build a tepee, women sewed the hides together and then constructed a cone out of long poles and covered the cone with the hides.
On the outside of the tepee, men painted scenes from daily life.
Originally tepees were only about 12 feet high, but after the Natives acquired horses, they began building them twice that size.
Carrying and setting up tepees were the women's jobs, not the men's.
These tepees were made so they could easily be taken down and moved to wherever the tribe went the next year.
