The Missisquoi Valley School District (MVSD) is proud to present its Strategic Plan, a guiding document developed over two years with invaluable input from our students, staff, families, and community members. This plan reflects our shared vision for an exceptional learning environment and outlines our commitment to preparing every student for success in an ever-changing world.
At MVSD, we are dedicated to fostering a culture of high expectations, enthusiasm for learning, and a relentless pursuit of excellence. This plan is built upon our core mission: to support students in finding success on any path they choose, guided by our Portrait of a Learner.
High Expectations: For students, staff, and our community.
Enthusiasm: For teaching and learning.
Excellence: A culture of continuous improvement in all we do.
The MVSD Portrait of a Learner describes the essential characteristics we aim to develop in every student, ensuring they are well-equipped for their future endeavors. Our students will be:
MVSD is deeply committed to educational equity. We believe that every student deserves the resources and opportunities necessary to learn and thrive, regardless of their background or circumstances. This includes, but is not limited to, characteristics such as race, ethnicity, religion, family economics, geography, ability, language, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, or initial proficiencies.
The Missisquoi Valley School Board and all MVSD staff are accountable for building a district-wide commitment to equity. This commitment will be integrated into all policies, programs, operations, practices, and resource allocations.
Provide High-Quality Resources: Ensure high-quality curriculum, programs, extracurricular activities, and support services are available in every school, facilitated by skilled teachers and administrators.
Address Individual Needs: Go beyond formal equality by making resource decisions based on student needs, recognizing that achieving equity may require a differentiated distribution of resources and services.
Eliminate Inequitable Practices: Identify and eliminate practices that create barriers, acknowledge and address biases, employ practices that reflect the belief that all students can learn, and create truly inclusive school environments.
The Missisquoi Valley School District will increase the overall achievement of all our students so that outcomes will continue to improve in accordance with our MVSD Continuous Improvement Plan and achievement gaps for children who struggle will close.
The Missisquoi Valley School District will improve postsecondary outcomes for all students as measured by Post Secondary Assessments, professional credential attainment, enrollment in apprenticeships, internships or work based learning, and an identified plan for college or employment upon graduation.
The District will increase its retention of all our MVSD staff.
The District will reduce the percentage of students with an attendance rate of 90% or below from the current rate of 18% to 15% by the end of the 2025-2026 school year.
Ensure efficient, safe, and sustainable learning environments for students by maintaining facilities and investing in capital improvements while optimizing human resources and technology.
The development of this strategic plan was a comprehensive, two-year undertaking, initiated in partnership with Up For Learning. This process prioritized the collection of diverse perspectives from students, teachers, administrators, and community partners to define our collective values for student success. We employed a multi-faceted approach, including in-person meetings and a ThoughtExchange platform, to gather extensive input from parents and the wider community. This collaborative effort culminated in the creation of the MVSD Portrait of a Learner, which was formally adopted by the school board, alongside the articulation of the MVSD's mission and values.
Building upon this foundation, the administrative team embarked on the next phase: translating these values into actionable strategies within a strategic plan. This involved a rigorous analysis of existing data, including our recovery plan, local needs assessments, continuous improvement plans, and assessment and post-secondary data. To ensure student voice remained central, we actively sought input from the MVU Teen Leadership group, the MVSD Student Success Committee, and through a community feedback session/survey. The resulting strategic plan outlines the major initiatives and measurable success indicators that we believe will empower our students and district to achieve their full potential.
This strategic plan is built upon four interconnected pillars that reflect the MVSD mission, our shared values, and our unwavering commitment to equitable practices. The School Board will annually review our progress and set specific goals to ensure continuous improvement.
