Effort/Behavior

Any student who is a member of an athletic team who displays disrespect to teachers in school or in the community, or has damaged school, community, or personal property, or has otherwise behaved in any manner to reflect discredit on themselves, their school, or their community, will be suspended from extracurricular participation for such length of time that is decided by the administration.

It is also imperative that MVHS student-athletes recognize effort as an important aspect of day-to-day classroom behavior. If a student-athlete is not putting forth an appropriate level of effort within the classroom, or they are non-compliant / disruptive, they will not be allowed to participate in team activities until the teacher(s) see marked improvement in the respective area. MVMS faculty will follow the procedure below: 

Step 1: The teacher will contact the Athletic Director and Head Coach. The coach will take immediate action to assist the student. 

Step 2: If the classroom effort / behavior does not improve, the teacher will notify the Athletic Director and the student will be immediately ineligible to participate in any team events (practices / events). Once the teacher has noted improvement via an email to the Athletic Director, the student will be reinstated to the team.

Academics

Students participating in middle school athletics must maintain good academic and behavioral standards. To participate in middle school athletics, a student must behave in a manner that demonstrates respect for their peers, teachers, school property, and the good name of the school. Any student who has been suspended either internally or externally may lose the privilege of participation in middle school athletics for a period of time not to exceed 30 school days. Students who are disrespectful or habitually referred to the office for negative behaviors may also lose the privilege to participate. Students who are suspended internally or externally during the time of tryouts are not eligible to tryout during the day of their suspension. A student who receives 2 or more failures on the previous trimester’s report card will not be eligible to participate in that sport.
