The choir program at Medina Valley High School aims for choral excellence by providing learning environments for all levels of singers and performers through access to level-appropriate ensembles that allow for growth and learning about music in a way that encourages proper vocal pedagogy and safe practices, engaging in developing music literacy through the daily practice of level-appropriate sight reading and concert literature, and creating whole musicians through the application of the performance practices. It requires commitment, planning, and practice.
Welcome to the MVHS Panther Choir Website!
August 2025
A big “Welcome Back” to our returning choir members, and an equally big “Welcome Aboard” to our new singers! Our program continues to grow, and with that growth come even more opportunities for every voice in our choirs. I’m thrilled to start this week together and can’t wait to hear the unique sound each choir will create this year. Every ensemble develops its own personality and musical character—and discovering that is one of my favorite parts of the journey.
While my primary way of communicating with parents and students is through ParentSquare and StudentSquare, this website serves as a home base for our program. Here, you’ll find detailed information, helpful resources, and a “one-stop shop” for celebrations, milestones, event details, and essential documents like our handbook and syllabi.
This year’s theme is “Embrace the Pursuit!”
For our choir members, that means exploring the many ways you can grow as a musician. Over the next week, as we settle in and get to know one another, students will learn how to set achievable goals—both inside and outside of choir. Parents and guardians, I encourage you to take a moment to learn what goals your singer has for the year and explore how you can help support them in reaching those milestones.
An exciting change for returning members: each choir now has its own name!
In the past, titles like Non-Varsity, Junior Varsity, and Varsity reflected experience level, but they didn’t capture the artistry, identity, and potential of each group. Every choir in our program has the ability to deliver powerful performances, grow deeply as musicians, and create moments that inspire both performers and audiences.
By giving each choir a name, we honor its unique spirit rather than comparing it to another ensemble with different experience and achievements. The learning goals, expectations, and enrollment requirements for each group remain exactly the same—only the names are new:
Voce (2nd period) — “Voice”
Canto (4th period) — “Song”
Lirica (7th period) — “Lyric”
Here’s to a new year, new names, and the same passion for making music together!
