Welcome!
I have had the exciting privilege of teaching biological science at both campuses of Mountain Vista Governor's School since 2017.
I teach Collegiate Biology to juniors and Advanced Biology to seniors on Mondays and Thursdays on the Warrenton campus and on Tuesdays and Fridays on the Middletown campus. On Wednesdays, I am typically found on the Middletown campus working with the Student Science STEAM group.
My Teaching Philosophy: Learning should be joyful as well as meaningful. I believe the classroom is a living community and that everyone, from the staff to the students to the parents, must contribute in order to maintain a positive atmosphere. All students are individuals, and everyone learns in their own unique way. I use multiple methods of teaching (linguistic, visual, auditory, kinesthetic) to reach students, so that everyone has a chance to thrive. I connect lessons to the real world and the get students outside whenever possible. Above all, I strive to provide a safe environment where students are invited to share their ideas and take risks.
I am always happy to hear from students, parents, and community members. Please feel free to contact me at hbement@mvgshome.org.
