Miss Melsha - Professional School Counselor
Introduction
Hello! My name is Sarah Melsha, and I am the middle school counselor here at Mount Vernon. I am passionate about supporting students as they grow through these exciting and sometimes challenging middle school years.
Professional Background
I received my bachelor of science in Psychology - with three minors in Diversity Studies, Child and Adolescent Studies, and Biology Studies from Mount Mercy University. I earned my Masters of School Counseling from Loras College. I have worked in school counseling for four years. My background includes working with students across grade levels, with a special focus on social-emotional learning, coping strategies, and building positive relationships.Â
My Counseling Approach
I believe that every student has unique strengths and the ability to succeed when given the right tools and support. In my role, I meet with students in classroom lessons, small groups, and individual settings. I focus on helping them build skills in areas like self-awareness, emotional regulation, goal-setting, and healthy relationships. I also work closely with parents, teachers, and staff to ensure students feel supported both at school and at home.
A Little About Me
Outside of school, I enjoy line dancing, gardening, baking sourdough, spending time with my family. These are the things that help me recharge and remind me of the importance of balance and self-care; something I also encourage students to practice.
Commitment to Families
I am honored to be a part of the Mount Vernon community and am committed to creating a welcoming, supportive space for all students. My door is always open, and I encourage students and parents to reach out if they have questions, concerns, or simply need someone to talk to.
