In guidance class, students will focus on skills that help them grow as people and as learners. Each month we have a theme like Discovering Me or Taking Care of You, where students practice things like building confidence, understanding emotions, showing respect, and finding healthy ways to cope with challenges.
Lessons are hands-on and discussion-based, and I pull from Pathways 2 Success, along with Counselor Keri, and Be Good People activities. My goal is to give students tools they can use in the classroom, at home, and in their friendships so they feel more confident, capable, and connected.
First Semester Themes
August: Getting Started
Students will learn about classroom expectations, routines, and what guidance is all about. We’ll spend time building a strong foundation for the year and getting to know one another.
September: Discovering Me
This month is all about self-awareness. Students will explore their strengths and challenges, practice positive self-talk, build emotional vocabulary, and learn how respect helps us connect with others.
October: Taking Care of You
Our focus will be on self-care and self-control. Students will learn calming strategies, practice managing their emotions, and understand how to advocate for their own needs in healthy ways.
November: Believe in Yourself
We will work on self-esteem and positive thinking. Students will explore how their thoughts impact their emotions, practice coping strategies, and build confidence in their ability to handle challenges.
December: Respect and Resilience
Students will connect coping skills with social expectations. We’ll focus on respect, manners, and handling emotions in positive ways, while also learning how to bounce back from setbacks.
