Nightly from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Each year since 1992, Mountain View Church in Marietta, GA, has presented this interactive event to the community. You can walk through the streets of Bethlehem and talk with the shopkeepers, sign the census and "pay" your taxes to Caesar Augustus's tax collector. You can also sample the fine dried fruits, enjoy a tasty cup of hot apple cider, and try out the dried fruit and hummus samples. At the end of your journey you will find God's most precious gift. His newborn son will be wrapped in swaddling clothes and found in the stable on the edge of town.
The entire event is free. We do accept donations but that is up to each traveler's own decision. Reservations are ONLY for the Preschool Morning event.
If you have questions please email us at bethlehemwalk@mv-church.org and we will try to quickly answer them.
Evening hours are from 7-9 P.M. Service dogs only.
Admission is free. No tickets needed.
Donations are welcome but not required. Free HOT cider.
Opening of the city is by the Roman soldiers. They have the tower guard climb to the top of city gate and light the torches. They then proceed to enter the city and light the remaining torches. Before you enter the city , you will be offered some of our famous hot cider. It is REALLY HOT. Once in the city the shops are for your viewing pleasure. Please remember ALL of our shopkeepers are volunteers. There are some shops that you may enter and and take photos in. Most shops prefer that you stay on the city street. One exception is the synagogue. You will be invited in to listen to the rabbi as he explains about the menorah and the miracle of the oil that is celebrated on Hanukkah. There are samples available at the fruit, vegetable, scribe, perfume, and apothecary shops. Nothing is for sale in the city. You can try your hand at some ancient games in the games shop. Be sure to sign the census and to "pay" your taxes. The Roman soldiers are there to keep the peace of Rome as Bethlehem is a city in an occupied country. Please follow their instructions. Throughout the city there are benches for those who need a rest from their travels. Be sure to visit the Wise Men and their camels near the city's center. Talk with the Innkeeper and see if he can find you a place to stay. Don't miss the baker! Beth le Hem means House of Bread. Check out the doves and the weaver. Both shops have a story to tell. At the edge of the city you will find the stable. This presentation happens about every 10-15 minutes until the shops close for the evening. From the stable you will walk down the sidewalk towards the church and enter the sanctuary. In there you can gently return to the 21st century. You can light a candle in memory of a loved one or ask for prayers for those in need. As you exit the sanctuary, please sign our guest book and leave us any comments you may have. Children under 10 will be offered a small candy cane as they leave the building. Please feel free to ask questions and tell your friends and neighbors about your journey.
