Annual CPR Training for MHS Seniors

All seniors were required to take a CPR training course from the school’s nurse. Most seniors took this course through their English class, but the seniors that take concurrent English, had to sign up for March 6 and 7. During the class, students were shown the basic skills required to successfully complete CPR on someone that’s in need of help. If you are a senior and have yet to take this course, do so fast so that you can graduate on time.

Guide to Getting a Driver's License

by Melissa Hollis

As students approach the age of 16, stress consumes a majority of the Mustang High School population. The pinnacle of freedom, and the all important teenage status symbol; a driver’s license. Students tend to have test anxiety, but when it comes to their driver’s test, it takes the stress to a whole other level. In attempt to ease any worries or fears, we put together a list of do’s and don’ts, and got some words of advice from students who have acquired their license.

“It’s not as scary as you think. Test and take your classes through Brown’s and not the DMV. Brown’s may be more expensive, but it’s worth it because the test is easier to pass through Brown’s and you don’t have to have your own car to practice or test with them,” said Ashley Dewald, 12.

Do:

Pay Attention during Driver’s Ed class

Study

Practice in all different scenarios (ex. School zones, construction zones, downtown streets)

Don’t:

Don’t Stress yourself out

Don’t be overly confident, take criticism from experienced drivers

Don’t Procrastinate

Don’t get heated behind the wheel

NFL Combine

by Will Farris

The NFL combine is a yearly event that happens during the NFL offseason. The NFL invites 335 of the best College football players to Indianapolis and there is when they test players in different categories that include speed, strength and agility over a four day period.

The first day showcases lineman, running backs and special teams. The first day had the best combine performer with Saquon Barkley. Barkley ran a 4.4 forty yard dash, had a 41 inch vertical and had 29 reps on the bench press that weighed 225. All of those were ranked first with his position.

The second day showcased the most popular positions in the NFL with the quarterbacks, wide receiver and tight ends. The quarterback that probably improved his stock the most was Josh Allen because he showed in his drills that he refined he throwing mechanics and showed his accuracy along with his huge cannon on the side of his arm. Baker Mayfield had a controversial combine because of his interviews he showed his confidence and how cocky he can be and that his mentality might scare some NFL teams away. The top performers was DJ chark and Marquez Valdes-Scantling because their 40 times were under 4.4.

The third day of the NFL combine showcase defensive lineman and linebackers. The man everyone was talking about was Shaquem Griffin. Griffin lost his hand as a baby but still put up 20 reps on the bench press and he ran the fastest time for a linebacker.

The last day of the combine showcased defensive backs. Most defensive backs kept their draft stock the same by doing what they were expected. Jordan Thomas was a exception because he broke the combine record for the three cone drill.
