Electricity and magnetism are closely related phenomena: a changing electric field induces a magnetic field and a magnetic field applies a force to electrically-charged objects that are moving.

The electric field that holds together atoms -- a fact for which we should be eternally grateful. More obvious to the everyday observer, though, is the fact that much of today's society is built on our ability to control the motion and behavior of electrons. We do this by designing devices that use electric and magnetic fields.
