You are expected to read your textbook in General Physics. Mastering Physics (MP) is the interface you will use to access this resource. We will also use this program to complete weekly reading assignments. These assignments will correlate with specific sections of the text that will be the focus of the week. Here are some important points about the MP assignments:
These assignments are always opened on Monday and close on the following Sunday at midnight. The computer will not accept submissions after midnight on Sunday.
We have reading assignments every week except...
the first week of school
exam weeks; and,
the weeks of Thanksgiving and just before Winter Break.
MP assignments fall under the PRACTICE category of grades. The questions are meant to help you confirm your understanding of the material before you have to demonstrate that understanding on a test.
The MP Gradebook will not be used. All grades will be transferred to Infinite Campus and each assignment score will be entered out of 100 points, which represents the percentage that you got correct on the assignment.
Many of the questions are multiple choice. For these, you will get a certain number of tries to get the question right, determined by the number of possible options. The formula for determining the number of tries is the number of options minus one. For each incorrect answer, a small percentage is deducted.
There are a variety of ways MP asks questions. You must complete a Tutorial to become exposed to each question type and to ensure you know how to use the program’s tools so that you can successfully complete each assignment. Follow the rules of significant figures in MP.
MP also contains “Dynamic Study Modules”. These interactive resources will never be assigned as homework, but will be a great study resource for you to consider prior to a quiz or test.
