I am a jack of many trades, but master of few. I love cooking, but hate doing dishes. I like camping, hiking, fishing, and most outdoor activities. During the pandemic days, I got more into gardening, but once we went back, my veggie garden died... c'est la vie! I've been an English teacher since 2006 and was also a high school art teacher for four of those years. My bachelor's degree is from Cal State Monterey Bay in Visual and Public Art, with a concentration in Large Scale Painting and Murals, and a minor in Japanese Language and Culture... because college is for doing all the things! I earned my teaching credentials in both English and Visual Arts, as well as a master's degree in Education, from The National Hispanic University. I recently achieved becoming a National Board Certified Teacher in English Language Arts for Early Adolescents in 2022.
Speaking of doing all the things, I like to try out new crafts, hobbies, and activities. Once, I had a terrible case of the flu and had to stay in bed for three days, so I tried to learn how to crochet. Three days later, I ended up making a coaster and called it a success. In high school, I did tennis, cross country, water polo, and swimming. I didn't know how to swim on the first day of water polo practice, but I went anyway. One of the girls taught me a quick lesson in the shallow end of the pool for about half an hour... then they put me into practice (in the 12' end!). I practically drowned that first day, but I didn't quit! I stayed through my senior year. I was also really into student leadership and ASB and was class president twice and Vice President for Region 7 of the California Association of Student Councils during my senior year.
If I had to narrow down my life to its most important elements, I'd say I value independence, creativity, and humor the most. I treasure the time I spend with my family and friends, trying new things, and making memories. I love going to baseball games! I try to challenge myself often and am getting better at understanding and acknowledging my limits. I am always looking for new ways to use my skills to make our world a better place. I always try to do my best and when I learn about a better or more sustainable way to live, I do that instead! Let's go, Oakland! (Not Vegas, BOOOOO! SELL, Fisher!)
Paramount+ is Star Trek central and I am loving Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. The LD/SNW Crossover episode was peak Trek! I rewatched Star Trek: Voyager during the summer and plan to rewatch Star Trek: Lower Decks, Season 3 before Season 4 comes out in September. I saw the Lower Decks cast at Comic-Con San Diego last year and love the Easter eggs hidden in the show! ::Live long and prosper:: 🖖
Hand lettering is a rewarding and useful hobby! I enjoy trying to learn new fonts and I practice my calligraphy on gifts and letters.
I started sewing, embroidering, and beading again! Such a fun and satisfying hobby because in the end, you get something fun and functional!
Gardening! I am growing jalapeno and poblano peppers, basil, rosemary, mint, dill, cilantro, marigolds, lemons, roses, bird of paradise, lots of indoor plants and succulents! So fun and great quarantine stress relief.
