Part One - City Planning:
In this part of the project, you will choose a role within your assigned group. You may take on the job of Architect, Cartographer, Community Organizer, Historian, or Project Planner. See the attached Roles Table for the roles descriptions.
You will leave your home group to meet with the others who have the same role as you do. Together, you will look at the Role Descriptions table and discuss your role. Think about what you are excited about doing and what you think will be a challenge. Check in with me before leaving your expert group re-joining your home group.
Once you are back with your home group, have a discussion and answer the following questions:
1. Which sorts of buildings (stores, homes, businesses, government) do you think should be in a city? Make a list on your planning log.
2. Are some buildings (think about schools, gas stations, fire stations, etc) necessary ? Make a list.
3. What would help determine which buildings are needed and how many of each are needed?
4. Could some buildings be combined?
Next, think about locations for the buildings on your list. Discuss whether the following ideas would be logical:
Part Two - Architecture:
With your group watch this video: 100 Most Famous Buildings
On your own, look at this collection of 22 Famous Buildings.
Also on your own, look at this list of Most Visited Buildings. Choose one of these buildings to sketch in your sketchbook.
When you have finished your sketch, check in with me, please, and upload a photo of it to Google Classroom.
