LIBRARY MISSION STATEMENT

The mission of the MHS Library is to be a place for students to gather for the purpose of studying, in groups or individually; to supply resources that are up-to-date, age appropriate, and relevant, to be utilized for research and also reading for pleasure, without impeding on a student's freedom of choice in their literary preferences; to implement programs that foster a love of reading; and to produce contributing members of society upon graduating from high school that can think, create, share, and grow independently.

 LIBRARY VISION STATEMENT

The vision of the MHS Library is to equip our students with a foundation of skills needed to pursue any type of future plans they may have when they leave our building.  The MHS Library strives to see students explore different types of literature and genres, so that they may find something that cultivates a love of reading and learning within them that could last throughout their lifetime.  The MHS library attempts to generate an atmosphere of comfort, collaboration, community and connectedness.

About me

Hello!  My name is Mrs. Burkeen.  I am your librarian at MHS!  I come to you with 17 years experience as a high school librarian in a neighboring county.  I decided for years 18+ (2021/2022), it was time for a change in my work location to finish out the last years of my career. I am so glad that Murray High chose me to be your librarian.

I graduated from Murray State in 2003 with a Bachelor's Degree in Library Science and chose to do a Continuing Education Option for my Rank II in 2009 with a focus in Writing.  I come from a family of school librarians so that definitely played a part in my decision to be a librarian instead of a classroom teacher.  I love kids and helping them achieve their goals in any way that I can.

I've been married to my husband, Matt, for over 20 years and we have 2 sons, Ben and Brady.  We live in Benton, which is where we are both from.  We spend most all of our time watching our kids play sports or coach sports.

Feel free to email me anytime with any questions you may have concerning the library.  shauna.burkeen@murray.kyschools.us

Looking forward to another great year!! GO TIGERS!
