Open Day EVENTS

In February and March 2020, all partner schools organized Open Day Events in order to disseminate the project outcomes.

OPEN DAY EVENT IN THE AUSTRIAN SCHOOL

The Austrian school celebrated the Open Day Event on 2nd March, 2020.

Invited guests were community members, family and friends of the children.

Together with the children we decorated and prepared information stands for each of our partner countries.

At the stations, guests were able to learn about traditional clothing, landscapes and more.

They were also spoiled with traditional dishes from our partners. All visitors showed great interest and obtained detailed information about the project.

The very well-attended event opened with the common song "Hello". This was followed by dances and songs (Sirtaki, Schuhplattler, Beatles, ... ..)

It was an evening that will be remembered for all participants.

OPEN DAY EVENT IN THE GREEK SCHOOL

The Greek school celebrated the Erasmus+ Open Day in the school Hall on Wednesday 12th February 2020. It was a very festive day and it welcomed people from all the community.

The first part of the festival took place during the morning hours when all the students and the teachers had the chance to attend and enjoy the performances. Both students and teachers clapped with joy and enjoyed their multicultural experiences offered by the festival performances.

The second part was in the evening where parents, local authorities and people of the community were among the audience invited. Everyone was very excited to be there and the great turn-up of attendees can verify the success of the day.

The event commenced with a presentation of the activities carried out during the 1st transnational meeting in CEP Antonio de Ulloa Cartagena Spain in November 2019. The students expressed their experiences of Spanish culture in an artistic way and tried to convey their feelings and knowledge to the audience. Specifically, the students sang the Spanish song “Burrito Sabanero” and “Campana sobre campana” and explained its meaning to the audience. Also, they danced a Spanish dance and showed a video of the activities in Cartagena. Finally, they sang and staged the Spanish song “Al pasar la barca” which the Spanish students taught the Greek delegates during their visit in CEP Antonio de Ulloa.

Next, the students’ cultural experiences of the other partner-countries followed; The students sang in German the Christmas carol “Kling glöckchen” which dates back to the 19th century. What is more, a group of students danced an Austrian dance on the stage and showed instances of dance moves and melody of Austrian dances.

Next, two groups of students staged two Greek myths: “Φυλλίς και Δημοφών/ Phyllis and Dimophon” and “Το μήλο της Έριδος/ The apple of discord”. They explained that these myths were among the agenda of activities for British students during our 2nd transnational meeting in Sutton Coldfield, UK. The students also exerted the importance of the intangible cultural heritage, such as myths and language, and the different cultural weight certain expressions bear. In the end, they showed photos of the British students and presented the British school.

A Turkish cultural element was added to the feast with two dances by different student groups. The first one was a Turkish dance and the other was a Greek-Turkish dance called “Üsküdar” and the students gave some information about them.

The curtain closed with the “Γεια σου/ Hello” song sung by all the participants with extra enthusiasm and joy. This song was written and composed by the Greek school musician and composer Mr Andronis Dimitris and it encompasses the core values of our partnership: LOVE and RESPECT to different cultures and people and, thus, has evolved to the absolute soundtrack of our multicultural and Erasmus+ experiences!

Finally, a multicultural buffet was prepared with the help of the Parent and Teacher association and it offered tastes and flavors of different partner sweet treats.

All in all, the Open day in the Greek school was an entire success and will be an unforgettable experience for all!

OPEN DAY EVENT IN THE SPANISH SCHOOL

The Spanish school celebrated the Open Day Event on 20th February, 2020.

At CEP Antonio de Ulloa, the event started with a reception in the Assembly Hall attended by educational and local authorities, students parents and teachers.

First, representatives of Europe Direct in the Region of Murcia and Cartagena Department of Education, headteacher and coordinator of the bilingual project at CEP Antonio de Ulloa welcomed the attendees and presented the Erasmus + eTwinning project: Let´s go cultural!.

Then, all the attendees sang our partnership song, the “Hello”song, composed by the Greek teacher Dimitris Andronis.

Next, the whole school community was able to enjoy a sample of traditional dances representative of the 5 countries of our partnership prepared by students and teachers from CEP Antonio de Ulloa and with a special performance by the city of Cartagena folk group.

Finally, there was a tasting of typical sweets and drinks from Greece, Turkey, Austria, UK and Spain prepared by students and teachers.

OPEN DAY EVENT IN THE TURKISH SCHOOL

The Turkish school celebrated the Open Day Event on 26th February, 2020.

At Bahattin Özyazıcı Primary School, we prepared the board and decorated our school. Our students and their families collaborated with the preparations.

A stage was set up and our students performed a puppet show Hacivat-Karagöz.

Then we did an apple candy event. The children's mothers prepared a variety of traditional foods and these were introduced in the great hall of our school.

We sang our partnership song "Hello" with all our students.

OPEN DAY EVENT IN THE UK SCHOOL

On Tuesday 4th February, Whitehouse Common Primary held an Open Evening as part of Parents’ Consultation evening. Señora Stevens and the Language Leaders set up the Think Tank room with a display of work completed so far including all the logos entered in the project competition, the travel guides shared during the Spanish visit, and photos of the interactions. Parents and pupils could also try out the activities shared in Spain including choosing the top ten images of ‘Britishness,’ finding British icons in a photo and colouring flags of the project countries. Parents popped in between appointments to watch videos of the project meeting in Cartagena – one of each day plus others celebrating the Romans and Carthaginians, clapping rhymes and dancing at La Casa del Folclore – and to ask Señora Stevens about the project. It was lovely to hear their comments and to learn that the children were sharing the project at home, teaching their families the Hello song and getting excited about the forthcoming project meeting at our school.

A second Open Day was planned after the project meeting but this was unfortunately impossible thanks to the closure of school due to COVID and the move to remote learning.
