About Write To Be Heard:
A powerful new book has been released, giving a voice to those silenced by coercive control and post-separation abuse. The launch took place in Sheffield in November 2025.
“Write To Be Heard: Voices of Survivors of Coercive Control and Post-Separation Abuse” is a moving collection of writings by survivors, many of whom have accessed support through our services at Mums In Need. The project was created to empower survivors, raise awareness of the realities of coercive control and post-separation abuse, and fundraise for our work supporting mums and children affected by abuse.
Women supported by our charity were invited to take part in therapeutic writing workshops, providing a safe and creative space to explore their experiences. Participants, along with others affected by coercive control and post-separation abuse, were then invited to submit their poems and prose for inclusion in the book.
To protect all contributors, all writings are published anonymously, though the authors retain full rights to their words.
This book not only amplifies the voices of survivors but also serves as a powerful reminder of the resilience and strength of those navigating the challenges of abuse, while helping us at Mums In Need continue our vital work supporting mums and children.
‘Write To Be Heard: Voices of Survivors of Coercive Control and Post-Separation Abuse’ is now available to buy on Amazon. The words inside are not always easy to read. Its many voices tell of pain and struggle, but also hope and resilience.

Bringing Survivors’ Words to Life
Are you someone who would feel confident in sharing a piece of writing from the Write to be Heard anthology of survivors' voices? If so, we need to hear from you.
Women who have experienced post-separation abuse and coercive control are often afraid to put their heads above the parapet for fear of reprisal. Did you know that family courts forbid parents from speaking about the horrific experiences they have endured, some of which have led to the removal of their children because of gaslighting tactics of perpetrators and systemic misogyny.
Their words are powerful but they need to be heard by more people. All proceeds go to support the important work of Mums In Need.
We'd love to see writers, poets, actors and activists sharing pieces from the book on social media and other platforms.
If you think you can help please get in touch at socialmedia@mumsinneed.com.
The two extracts below come from the forewords written for the Write To Be Heard book.
‘It is a travesty that these women are unable to own their stories publicly but this book lifts the lid on the unrecognised abuse that thousands of people are facing every day… …I hope that you will read this book and then buy another one for someone you know who needs to hear this message.’
Laura Riley, Mums In Need
‘If you work in family justice, child protection, or any adjacent field, this book is essential reading. Not because it will make you feel good -- it will not -- but because it will show you the consequences of our collective failures with unflinching clarity.’
Saskia Lightburn-Ritchie, Domestic Abuse Experts
