Reflection

Strengths: My peers agreed that my pitch had merit for the target audience (teachers) and that it would likely be a sought after product. The pitch itself was clear and concise and the elevator pitch was simple enough to grab attention and encourage further reading in the venture pitch. My peers felt that the market I was targeting would be attractive for investors who were interested in looking into AI in education. I felt like my pitch came off the way that I wanted and yet I am not sure how it would look from an investor perspective. There were a couple of my peers who were not in education and therefore didn't entirely understand the nuance of what I was suggesting and that would be something I would have to do a better job of explaining to my potential investors. Overall, I felt like I was able to identify the market gap and demonstrate how my product could be used to fill the gap and where the demand for this product would come from.

Weaknesses: I think the biggest weakness of my pitch is that the technology is not quite there yet. In my reading, I determined that there were a number of smaller businesses that were trying to enter this space but that getting the technology to cooperate was still developing. I think that this could be highly attractive to schools, districts and large companies but I am not sure how it would sit in the investor marketspace. With so much money and development going into AI and tech I am not confident that people would necessarily be interested in a tool that is designed to help teacher efficiency if they are not teachers themselves. Another weakness is that I have not yet considered how likely this will be possible from a privacy perspective. It would be challenging to allow an AI tool to have this kind of access to student work while ensuring it would not be using the data for other purposes. If the tool itself could learn from the data it would be making inferences about students and potentially their abilities as well which could be harmful to them in the long term.
