+Understanding that performing/speaking in front of an audience is 100% expected of you in these courses.
++Extra credit earned through auditioning for and participating in after-school productions when in concentration courses --- as a CAPSTONE course, you must participate in an INTERNSHIP. Participation in any role through staged productions is considered a valid internship; therefore, you must participate in (1) production from start to finish of your capstone year.

3 GOLDEN RULES:
THINK: With everything you do, is it True, Helpful, Inspiring, Necessary, and Kind?
Social judgment of your peers or their art is not allowed in B4 (refer back to #1)
Growth Mindset: Embrace challenges, Every mistake is an opportunity to learn and explore, Persist through setbacks, See effort as a path to mastery, Find inspiration in others, Accept feedback
#1 Policy for Safety: If you haven't been specifically trained on it, DO NOT TOUCH it.
For the theater: Water is the only acceptable food/beverage allowed to be consumed in the theater. If sustenance is needed, thou shalt exit to the amphitheater and consume foods there--- Keep food and beverages on the elevator.
For B4: Food may be consumed during passing periods OR during designated times and ONLY IF the classroom remains clean, trash, and spill-free.
YOU MUST CLEAN UP YOUR TRASH otherwise you will incur the wrath of Dionysus and the demon fire ants will rise from the depths and wreak havoc (that was dramatic but we do have fire ants at GVHS that come up through the electrical outlets if food is left on our floor).
TOOL ZONES AND ART DISPLAYS: You should notice that there are a lot of both in this classroom. BE MINDFUL of the items. Keep chairs clear of the green screen and do not push into the tool chest. do not play with props, etc without permission. There will be times you get to use them.
BATHROOM POLICY follows the school's policy with the Minga app. However, if you are out of class for more than 20 minutes your teacher will mark you absent. Teachers also reserve the right to deny a Minga/bathroom pass to "frequent flyers" or students who consistently abuse the privilege.
If a performance or film viewing has not yet ended, sit quietly and still. I promise I will write you a pass to your next class. We should run a little later rather than cut off an artist.
DO NOT JUMP OFF THE STAGE - if you damage the curtains you must replace them.
PHONE POLICY: Cell Phones are TURNED-OFF in your bag, EAR/Airpods/BEATS are put away, CHROMEBOOKS or any other electronic are put away UNLESS I ask you to use the item for a project-based assignment. "No cell bell to bell" is a school-wide rule. "Teacher selected not student selected" is also a school-wide policy.
School Policy (see student handbook): students not abiding by this norm will receive a PASS to Mr. PARKER and parents will have to pick up their phone
LATE WORK: I’m pretty flexible and kind with personal late work. HOWEVER, LATE WORK WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED after the quarter deadline or if the late work is part of group work.
These are arts of collaboration and when you have other people relying on your contributions for a grade, you must respect their time as much as you do your own. If you experience extenuating circumstances that lead you to neglect group work, you may petition your teacher in writing for an alternative assignment. We want you to succeed and will help you do so but you must COMMUNICATE.
COMMUNICATION IS KEY
Students who have excused absence may also make up grades through extra credit in the form of after-school Drama Club Activities, GVTV, Plays, etc. OR assigned essays.
Points Deducted and Green Sheet/Minga Process Administered by:
Unauthorized cell phone use of any kind (plus Minga to Parker)
Leaving the classroom or theater without permission***
Using the theatre or film program as an excuse to ditch class***
Sitting around while your team works
Defiance toward teacher or sub***
Excessive off-task behavior such as off-topic chatting, gaming, Chromebook use, non-theatrical makeup application, completing work from other classes, etc
Refusal to perform on stage in front of an audience***
Refusal to participate in game-play, or other activities***
Refusal to work with performance team, group, or director***
Rude audience behavior such as: talking during a peer performance, heckling, booing, mocking, cat-calling, etc***
Refusal to sit in designated audience areas***
Disrespectful behavior during a performance, to theater/classroom space, teacher/sub or peers***
Flagrantly vulgar or inappropriate performance or film choices ***
While I do not support art censorship, I do teach appropriateness according to space. We code-switch and keep our performance and cinematic choices within a PG-13 rating as per school codes. And no, that does not mean you get (1) "F-bomb" per piece. etc. You are allowed zero.
Artistic choices that use racism, bigotry, misogyny, bullying (peer insults), or explicit vulgarity of any kind for any reason will be immediately referred to the administration and receive a zero on the assignment.
*** Behaviors marked also incur green sheet mediation and referral to discipline

It is a contract used by the Entertainment Industry to protect its assets and trade secrets.
Non-disclosure agreements are commonly signed when two companies, individuals, employees, or guests are exposed to original or company-owned material that they do not yet want to be viewed by the public and or released as a trade secret, etc.
In the industry, NDAs are used to protect the commercial or creative property of the company and artists within. We are commonly asked to sign NDAs when we visit industry businesses on our spring tours.
For example, if you were to have visited Legacy Effects before the premiere of The Mandalorian, you might have seen them building the child (or Grogu) before it was part of the general public knowledge. By signing an NDA you agreed to not disclose the existence of baby Yoda, therefore if the child's existence was leaked you could be held legally liable for possible financial damages that the leak could incur.
As an alignment with the industry model, we are having you sign an NDA. It is a policy ("follow these rules") contract written in the model and language of a professional Non-Disclosure agreement. Here are the main points of our NDA in clear language:
We want every performer to feel comfortable artistically expressing themselves in the classroom without fear of being photographed, recorded, and/or posted on a social media platform. I.e. without their performances being endangered by public disclosure.
Therefore, we are taking the cell phone policy extremely seriously. As well, each artist's work is considered their intellectual property --- this means anything they do on stage or in a workshop is exclusively theirs---so if you did not get permission to capture it--- you have stolen it. This includes "silly" videos or .5 photography of a peer you post on TikTok or any other social media. YOU MAY NOT POST WITHOUT PERMISSION.
Some students will have access to materials that we have licensed from companies such as Musical Theater International, Broadway Licensing, Concord Musicals, etc. These companies make our program sign contracts legally binding us to not take photographs, copy, or keep their materials.
Consent Policy and Agreement
As a student of the program, you agree to follow the licensing contracts.
As a student of the program, you will have access to original material written by your peers, and teachers. By agreeing to the NDA you agree to not distribute original materials for any use whatsoever.
As a student in the program, you agree to always ask for the consent of your peers before recording or depicting them in any way that is publicly distributed.
As a student in this program, your works will be publicly distributed WHEN: creating GVTV, competing in Skills USA, and Producing Staged Productions.
Video and or photography of work examples and productions will often be released on YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, and sometimes local media.
As a student in this program, you and your parents have the right to consent to recordings or depictions that will be published on the internet or in the media.
