Syllabus
Office Hours:
Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays 7:30-7:55 and 2:30-3:00
Expectations:

Turn in Assignments ON TIME
Classroom Style:
Each class period will consist of approximately 5-10 minutes of:
Board Work: time to sharpen skills previously covered.
Lecture: Approximately 15 minutes of “lecture.” The lecture could be from me, a video or article which will explain the day's work. Upon completion of the lecture portion of class, students will have the remaining time to:
Work Time to:
a) complete an activity (worksheet/game)
b) complete any unfinished math assignments or
c) complete any assignment from other classes.
Grading Scale:
Assignments 35%
Quizzes/Common Formative Assessments 15%
Tests/Benchmarks 30%
Final Exam 20%
Curriculum:
The things to be learned will consist of:
Number Theory and the Real Number System
Critical Thinking
Set Theory
Equations and Inequalities
Graphs, Functions and Linear Functions
Measurements
Basic Geometry
Counting Methods
Statistics
“The Real World” mathematics (PBL-Project Based Learning)
The speed and duration in which these topics are taught will be dependent on student comprehension and success.
There will be PROJECTS (PBL) assigned which will require the student to research and use analytics to complete. The projects may last a couple of days or a couple of weeks. Large, longer-lasting projects will be broken into smaller sub-projects to increase student comprehension.
Rubrics may be used for various projects where students will know what is expected from them during the assignment to receive a certain letter grade for that project.
Assignments:
All of the assignments given out in class can be completed during class time. Students have until FRIDAY of the same week to turn in any assignment given that week. Assignments more than one week old will not be accepted/graded unless student has a verified and excused absence.
Assignments must have the following fields filled in to receive credit:

Assignments without these fields filled in will be placed on the "Orphan' Board. Students have until the end of the week to "Claim" an orphaned paper and receive credit.
Quizzes and Tests:
Quizzes and tests will be given mainly on Thursdays with an occasional quiz/test on a Friday. Those students who do not perform well on any quiz or test will have an opportunity to retake that quiz/test on the TUESDAY following the quiz/test.
