The girls basketball team finished district up with senior night against Era. They finished with a three way tie for first in their district, with a district record of 11-4. The girls had their first playoff game February 11 against Bland and fought hard and finished with a win. They play Cooper Friday, February 14 against Cooper. Ady C says, “I'm not as nervous for this game as I was in the first round of playoffs. It was my first playoff game on Varsity which was a little scary but I am confident we will do fine against Cooper.” Turns out the girls were right, they had nothing to worry about during the Cooper game as they won 56-28. Next, the girls faced Seymour, where it was a very intense game. Anna K got fouled in the last 5 seconds and made her 2 free throws which put them up 42-40 and they pulled out the win! Finally, they had made it to the game they have been looking forward to all year, Nocona. This time it was for who went to state!! It was a super close game the entire time and even went into double overtime!! The girls put everything they had into this game and sadly just did not score enough and the final was 64-62. The game could have gone either way considering they did go into overtime, TWICE!! That concluded the Lady Hornets season with a record of 27-10.

Considering the boys football went all the way to state and won, that put a little hold on the boys basketball season starting. They don’t really get a “preseason” for boys basketball and kinda just jump right into their season. Their first games were in the Eula tournament, where they faced some challenging teams, but they used their losses as lessons on what they needed to work on for the season. The boys started a week later than the girls in district, but still shared senior night with them against Era. The boys finished third in district with a record of 10-4. They had a very similar route in the playoffs as the girls. The boys also faced Bland in the first round of playoffs and finished with the win as well, 51-37. Next they faced a very solid Cooper team, and sadly lost 49-28. This wrapped up the Hornets season with a record of 13-7.

As spring starts to creep this way, that means it is time for softball and baseball!! They have started their practices and even some games. Both teams were challenged to play without some of their key players due to basketball still going on, but now that both basketball teams' seasons have ended they can focus on softball or baseball. Both teams will be competing in tournaments preparing them for their district and later on, playoffs. We are very excited to see what the boys and girls accomplish during their seasons!
Powerlifting is also springing into action. Powerlifting is still kind of new to Muenster considering this is the second year having it. The girls compete at regionals 2-29-25 in Bells. Most of them have been preparing for this since November. They have had 4 meets concluding, Sherman, Valley View, Bowie, and Chico. The boy powerlifters have also been competing alongside the girls, but their regional meet is not until Tuesday, March 4 in Decatur.
Now that basketball is officially over which means, track is now in full gear! The boys and girls track teams had their first meet in Lindsay February 27.

Student groups and organizations have been participating in exciting activities throughout January and February. Groups like Student Council, FFA, and FCCLA had many students who participated in these activities.
FFA and FCCLA participated in the Cooke County Junior Livestock Show. Students entered their creations in categories of animals and crafting. Landon H, Jaycee B, Ryder G, Cooper G, Anna H, Brynlee B, Zadok S, Faith S, Emma W, Anna W, Wade S, Hayden S, Adelaide B, and Mason B all made the premium sale with their projects and animals.
FCCLA sold monster cookies for a fundraiser. The cookies were sold for $25 a dozen to raise money for STAR events and supplies. They were sold from January 22nd to January 31st and can be picked up on March 7th. FCCLA members also celebrated Valentine’s Day by sending candy-grams. The candy-grams are sold for $5 and contain a flower with a bag of candy to be given to the recipient on February 14th.
Student council held a blood drive on January 13th. Members made cookies and brought them to be given to those who donated blood.

One Act Play started up at the beginning of the second semester. The play is called “A Light in the Darkest” and tells the story of young girls who are struggling to escape their enslavement to a factory. The team tied for second at the district competition and will be going on to compete at the bidistrict level on March 22. Individual awards were earned by Caitlynn M, Vyson G, and Preston J. The One Act Play team has been working hard and practicing three days a week to make improvements to the play that will earn them a trip to the area competition.

Over the course of the year, a handful of our fellow classmates and students have been hard at work behind the scenes to qualify for state TMSCA. Events in TMSCA include math, number sense, science, and calculator application.
A few of the participants include Sydney M, Ivan M, Brady W, Clay L, Carter Q, and Dalton M.
So far, Sydney M has qualified for the number sense and math competition. Dalton M has qualified for math, number sense, calculator, and science. Alongside, Ivan McCoy has qualified for math, number sense, calculator, and science. Clay L also qualified for math and science.
As those who have already qualified for the state meet in San Antonio continue to work hard to do as best as they can, the other participants are continuing to work to achieve their goals of reaching the state level.

The word “prom” comes from the archaic word “promenade.” “Promenade” refers to a paved, public walk, or the act of leisurely walking. The event was given its name in 1928, but the tradition began back in the mid-1800s. Prom wasn’t originally for high school students, but for Ivy League college students instead. They hosted these events to help develop young adults’ etiquette and manners. In some cities in the 1960’s and 70’s, there would often be two proms, one for white kids and one for black kids.

One day in January, military recruiters set up right outside of the auditorium. They had a table with posters and handouts set up. Two young adults already enlisted in the military talked to the teens about the possibility of enlisting in the future. Students took turns having fun while seeing how many pull-ups they could do on the pull-up bar the recruiters brought.

In late February, SSG Hawk with the Texas Army National guard came to talk to our juniors about possibly enlisting in the National Guard. He explained to us the process of enlisting, how life in the National Guard looks, and the perks of joining.

The flu is one of the most, if not the most, common sickness to get around winter time. This year, it’s the most intense it has been in the last 15 years. There have been over 24 million cases with around 13,000 deaths. Some of the bigger schools have had to shut down because so many students and teachers have been sick with the flu.
