AR FAQ's

How many points do I need? 

Most teachers require students to reach an AR goal set specifically for them at the Intermediate school, however at the Jr. High most teachers set the goal for 15 points with the following guidelines. Be prepared to grow.

• at least 3 of the 15 have to be nonfiction.  

  • • For example, if you read the nonfiction book, Unbroken, and it's worth 24 points, you have reached your goal, BUT

    •  If you read Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, you will need to find additional books because it's fiction and doesn't count for the 3 nonfiction points.

Where can I find a short book worth a lot of points? 

You can't.  

• Points are based on the number of words in the book.  So don't let font fool you either.  A 7 point book is always longer than a 5 point book, no matter what size the font! 

Can I test on my own book? 

Of course!  We try to provide books in the most convenient place possible--the middle of the school, but it's not required that you read only our library books.  In fact, you can check out books from other libraries to read also, such as Mt. Zion Public and Decatur Public.  You can also return those books to our Intermediate Library when you are finished and we will get them returned to the correct library.
