Excused Absences (No make-up required)*:
Religious holiday
School-related testings (Keystones, EL ACCESS, PSSA)
School Field Trips
Family Bereavement
*a parent's note must be submitted notifying the teacher of Religious and Bereavement absences. The student should remind the teacher about school-related absences.
All other absences should be made up during REM. Absences include but are not limited to Sickness, Vacations, Orchestra/Chorus/Band Sectionals, Doctor appointments, Being sick, and Non-participation (sick or unprepared for class). See your teacher for extenuating circumstances.
Make Up Procedure: PE/Fit Make-up occurs daily except Wednesdays during REM. After you are dismissed from the before-school stations: Black Box, Lobby, and cafeteria, go to your locker and drop off your classroom books and materials. Bring only your change of clothes and your IPAD to check in for attendance. DO NOT GO TO YOUR HOMEROOM. You'll need to go directly to the Gymnasium locker room. Check-in using your Ipad and the QR code, then go to the locker room to change
An absence will be recorded as a “ZERO” in the grade book until make-up responsibilities have been fulfilled. After completing a make-up session, the grade will be changed to reflect the make-up score.
There may be conditions where missed classes are not allowed to be made up. This includes but is not limited to being removed for behavioral concerns, skipping class, and lying (about changing clothes).
A medical diagnosis that prevents the student from meeting the course requirements (more than ten classes ) will result in the student needing to drop the course and take it during another semester.
If an injured student cannot participate fully in PE or Fitness class for more than three days (up to ten days), a doctor's note must be provided to the teacher. Within the Doctor's note, a statement must indicate the activities that the student may participate in. AVOID BEING EXCUSED FROM PARTICIPATION when modification can be implemented to avoid making up classes, ex. Lower body injury can perform upper body exercises. Certain conditions may require being excused from participation (concussion and other conditions seen as too risky even for modifications). Communicate with your teacher about expectations.
A parent note can be submitted for injuries or medical conditions excusing a student for up to 3 days. Modifications can be made to meet course requirements; however, if full non-participation is requested, the missed classes must be made up during REM for credit.
