Waterski and Wakeboard Club
At Michigan Tech
What is Waterskiing and Wakeboarding? What is 3-event skiing? How do I join? When do you meet? Do I have to compete?
We are working on raising funds to purchase an equipment trailer for all of our clubs equipment. An equipment trailer would make it easier and more accusable to transport and keep equipment at the lake while working with teaching and practicing. To learn more about our equipment needs check out our Wishlist.
Club Merch is now available on squadlocker.com. Just search for MTU Waterski in the Find Store tab. a portion of cost goes towards supporting the club. Let us know if you have any questions.
Our Start
The founders of the Waterski and Wakeboard Club Team have a burning passion for both competitive and recreational watersports. We are a new club as of December 2023, which the E-Board has worked extremely hard to get up and running. At the moment we have 35 members, which we expect to rise to at least 40 recreational and 20 competitive members as Spring comes. We are persistent and devoted to growing this team both within our campus and the waterskiing community! We hope to teach as many people as possible how to get on the water safely while fostering an inclusive and encouraging environment of this awesome lifestyle sport.
The founding E-Board consists of 5 members, Halie Eiken, the president, Matthew Compher, the Treasurer, Keagan Reimers, the Secretary, Autumn Steffens, the Women's Captain, and Austin Jordan, the primary contact.
The Waterski and Wakeboard Club at Michigan Tech is affiliated with both the National Collegiate Waterski Association (NCWSA) and USA Waterski and Wake Sports (USA-WSWS). This means we will be competing for the Fall of 2024 and beyond. At the time of founding we did not have any equipment, however we were granted a sum of money through the Michigan Tech Undergraduate Student Government to put towards purchasing a boat and necessary equipment. As of August 2024 We have purchased and received almost all equipment to compete and teach others. We are so very grateful for all the help in this project and look forward to the future.
As we continue growing we have set three important goals to focus on. Within the first year we would like to reach an overall membership total of 50, with an entire team of competitive skiers. Secondly we would like to raise a goal of $1000 to set aside each year for any unexpected costs. Then to conclude our year one goals, we would like to gain at least three recurring sponsors to help keep our club running as we grow as a club, team, and family along with fundraising for an enclosed equipment trailer.
