Read this "Science News Explores" article (readability score: 6.6) about scientists who study the genetics of cats, relationships between dogs and humans, and diseases that pass from animals to humans.
Note: Due to the length of this article, you may want to break students into groups and ask each group to read the introduction and then one of the three sections. Student groups can share what they have learned with the class OR direct students to just read the introduction and the "Niney-nine lives" section since it is most relevant to this unit. This article is also in Unit 6.2.
Suggested classroom use: Have students answer these classroom questions before, during, and after reading.
(Note: Teachers will need to provide an email address to register for free access to the questions.)
