The Mount Saint Charles Academy Elite Dance Team is a cooperative group of dancers who strive to represent our school with superior character, dedicated passion, and commitment to athletic excellence. The goal of the team is to promote school spirit and involvement, teamwork, dedication, strong work ethic, and respect. A successful team is a result of two aspects: mutual respect among team members and a common vision about where the team is going. The mission of Team Elite is to provide dancers with a successful and meaningful educational experience.
Team members have personal goals of high academic achievement, increasing their dance ability, learning effective time management, forming strong friendships, and learning to become a valuable team member. The success of the team is due to the incredible dedication from the dancers, parent involvement, and experienced coaches. Dancers exhibit great sportsmanship, positive attitudes towards teammates, competitors, school, and parents. We confidently embody these attributes through our performance both on and off the dance floor.
Team Elite consists of two teams: The Competition Team and The Performance Team. Our auditions determine placements for the competition team and/or the performance team. All athletes between the grades of 9-12 are eligible to audition for the dance team. The audition process will take place in the spring of the previous school year. A qualified panel of judges will be brought in to assist in selecting the team. Candidates are encouraged to attend the audition clinics to be familiar with necessary material. Audition clinics are not mandatory but highly recommended for those who have not danced in a while or who have never auditioned for the team before.
All dancers must audition each school year
No scores or judges sheets will be distributed.
Final placement decision will be up to the coaching staff and may not be disputed.
Team Elite's Competition Team competes as a Varsity team at the Regional and National level. All members of the competition team are also members of the performance team. The team competes in jazz and hip hop. The competition team attends Universal Dance Association (UDA) camp the summer prior to the upcoming academic year. At this camp, the competition team learns routines over a three day period and members are evaluated on technique & performance quality. An invitation to Nationals is only awarded based on a proficient scoring of the team's evaluation. The competition team aims to attend the National Dance Team Competition every other year. The coaching staff utilizes camp to evaluate dancers and configure their involvement in the competition routines. Making the competition team does not guarantee a permanent spot in both routines. A dancer may be asked to be an alternate; alternates learn all choreography and are expected to work hard because, at anytime, an alternate may be placed in formations at the coach's discretion. It is also important to note that competition spots and alternate spots are subject to change throughout the season based on ongoing performance, behavior, and overall effort and commitment.
Our Performance Team dances at all school pep rallies, Friday Night Lights, the Autumnfest Parade, Art In Motion, and select MSC basketball games. In addition, every year this team performs during halftime at a Providence College Mens Basketball game! Dancers may indicate during their audition whether they wish to be a consideration for just the performance team or both teams. Members of the Competition Team must also commit to Performance Team events and practices.
