FIRST LEGO League Robotics Team – Ms. Ashley Watt
FIRST LEGO League is an international competition where teams program a robot (using LEGO® MINDSTORMS®) to score points on a thematic playing surface and create innovative solutions to a problem, all while being guided by the FLL Core Values. These three elements - the Robot Game, Project, and FLL Core Values - make up the yearly Challenge that focuses on a different real-world problem related to the sciences. The FLL team will participate in one or more tournaments. UMS Robotics will run in person and on Google Meet on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and every other Saturday every week from the beginning of the school year until the competition in November. If we qualify for the State Competition, it will run until December. If you are interested in applying, please join via the Google form: https://forms.gle/gwAdcVfmLwjSrh6dA
Science Olympiad – Ms. Molinaro & Mrs. Ferrante
The Science Olympiad is a national organization that promotes science learning and competition. The UMS team is selected based on set criteria in September/October and includes 7th, 8th, and 9th graders. Students should view an informational presentation posted to the Google Classroom for more information. Students will be required to take a test(s) to show their science aptitude. A select group of students will move on from the tryout test to the application portion of the tryout process before the final team is selected. Science Olympiad meets after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays and occasionally Saturdays throughout the school year, beginning in late September. Regional and state competitions occur in January and March, respectively. Please contact Ms. Molinaro at mmolinaro@mtsd.us or Mrs. Ferrante at kferrante@mtsd.us for more information.
