Sharing Guidelines

1. Help your child pick something that is interesting to him/her and would be interesting to other children.
2. Make sure it is large enough for the children to see when it is shown or it could be entirely a story about something that happened or that’s going to happen. If the child has an object they will get the chance to walk it around the circle, please figure out if it is a "touch" or "no touch" item.
3. Rehearse the sharing story. It should be no more than one minute (which can be quite long when speaking in front of others) Try answering who, what, why, where, when, and how, in the talk. Key points are: focusing on the topic, avoiding rambling, adding interesting details, speaking in a voice loud enough to be heard, and keeping to the time allotted.
4. After sharing the child should say “Do you have any questions or comments?” The child may call on three children. After the response to the third question or comment, the sharing child says, “Thank you.”
5. Sharing is optional but I would hope that your child will share at least once a month for the experience of speaking to an audience. If your child is not sharing, he or she may say, “I pass today.”
6. Please note that beginning in January the students should not bring in objects to share but should have a story or a "tell" moment.
