Parent Letter

Welcome to 7th Grade,

I will be teaching and learning with your child this year and I am looking forward to a rewarding and stimulating experience for us all. The teaching that happens in the classrooms must first begin with making your child feel at home. This year is a unique year because we have been living through a pandemic, with hybrid learning and a lot of social distancing. While I have always begun my year with “getting to know you” activities, this year, more than ever, these mini projects are a small window into your child’s world. I believe that if children are celebrated as unique individuals, with their own learning styles, interests, history, and hopes- they will thrive. In order for me to gain a more well-rounded idea about your child, here are some of the things I wonder about:

  • What is your child like?

  • What do they like to do?

  • How do they think and play?

  • What are your child’s strengths and weaknesses as a reader and writer? In other subject areas?

  • What are their study habits?

  • What are your child’s passions? Areas of expertise? Dreams?

  • What are your hopes for your child?

As I begin to meet with your child and get to know them, I would appreciate it if you would take the time to write a letter about your child. Please feel free to respond as briefly or as thoroughly as you would like. If you could please email your letter to me, that would be very helpful. I hope that this will be the beginning of a relationship that will foster a love of learning in your child. Thank you, in advance, for your great help.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Wendy Wachtel (she/her/hers)
