All 3rd grade students should complete the following homework assignments daily, as set by our district:
Reading: 20 minutes of independent reading/night
Math: 10 minutes of fact practice/night
You are welcome to use whatever means you feel are appropriate to accomplish these goals (physical books/math games, flash cards, online reading/fact practice sites, reading aloud or with a partner, etc.). If you are unsure of whether a specific resource would be suitable, please send me an email and I will take a look with you.
Math fact practice should consist of addition and subtraction facts up to 20 (1+/-1 up to 10+/-10) at the start of the school year. Later in the year, it will be recommended to switch to multiplication and division when work in these areas begins in the classroom.
Below are a few online sites that would be great to use when completing these assignments. Students will be assisted with logging in to each within the first weeks of school.
Epic! (free during school hours - requires additional access authorized by parents outside of school hours)
Freckle Math (accessed through the Clever portal when your child is logged in to their mtsdstudent account)
How will Mr. Martinez know if you are doing your homework???
Continued practice builds reading and math fluency. These will translate into the classroom and life in ways that will help you grow as a reader and call on specific math facts quickly with minimal thought required.
