What do we do in choir?
We follow the Wisconsin State Music Standards, which can be found here.
Students work in choir to become well-rounded singers and musicians! This includes...
Learning and developing different vocal and choral techniques
Learning music theory and vocabulary to enhance each student's understanding of how music functions
Engaging in sight singing exercises to improve each student's ability to read and sing music
Experiencing different styles and genres of music from a variety of cultures
Large group, small group, and individual performance opportunities
Lake Shore & Steffen Choir Schedules
Every 7th and 8th grade choir student participates in 2 full-group and 1 sectional rehearsal each week.
6th grade choir students receive 1 full-group, 1 sectional, and 1 extra help sectional rehearsal each week.
This allows students to have more individualized and small-group instruction, as they are building their vocal techniques and musical knowledge.
When students are not participating in their sectional rehearsal, they have designated Academic Assistance (AA) time to complete assignments, study for classes, and meet with their other teachers.
The weekly schedule for each choir is below:
Students who also participate in band or orchestra will have a individualized schedule.
This allows them to attend 1 full-group and 1 sectional rehearsal for each ensemble each week.

When Ms. Carlson isn't teaching, she enjoys reading at coffee shops, exploring farmer's markets, watching live theater, and crafting.
