The Role of the Social Emotional Coach
The Mequon-Thiensville Social Emotional Coach, will identify and help eliminate barriers to students’ academic achievement and social-emotional development. Social-emotional coaches will work with the CASEL framework and structure to help prevent students from failing and having to leave the learning environments that the district provides. The district social-emotional coaches will enable the district to address preventative strategies to students and staff to maximize the academic achievement and personal growth of each Mequon-Thiensville School District student.
Social Emotional Coaches will:
- Provide consistent support at assigned schools for leadership teams, analyzing behavioral data and crisis management
- Work with students, staff and families to coach them on how to eliminate barriers to learning
- Provide professional development and coaching to teachers to build teacher capacity
- Empower families as a parent and school liaison, by providing them with the skills and techniques to support the development of their child through workshops, coaching and resources
- Determine what additional resources are needed to effectively implement the CASEL framework
- Develop and monitor metrics of effectiveness for this work. This initiative aligns with Equity Non-Negotiables # 2, #5 and #9
