Throughout my 15 week student teaching placement in grade one, I graudually worked my way up from teaching 50% to 100%. A large focus of this practicum was my Capstone project. For 5 weeks of my practicum my students and I completed and inquiry project on bears. We explored one of the Seven Sacred Teachings, courage, which is representedby the bear, and we researched how a bear lives.
I completed my first 5-week practicum where I was gradually teaching 50-100% of my mentor teacher's workload. During my time in this practicum, I was able to experience teaching all subject areas, planned and taught an entire unit in social studies (India) and an entire unit in science (rocks and minerals), as well as facilitated 3 integrated curriculum lessons. I was also fortunate enough to participate in professional development days, staff meetings, and parent-teacher conferences.
