The Influence of Environmental Governance on Corporate Decision Making

In this project we assess why environmentally sensitive activities of corporations have endured some high-strung dynamics with environmental stakeholders; such dynamics, in turn, are currently construing new institutional milieus to govern corporations. The investigation aims at uncovering how environmental stewards (environmental Non-Governmental Organizations) and corporate decision makers influence each other actions around issues of environmental relevance and are establishing collectively the related institutional structures, surrounding that agenda. The study first incorporates the view that environmental stewards are pivotal to the external governance of corporations. Second, it concurs with the idea that corporate governance is a socially situated agency of corporate leaders and the related stakeholders. The research will include a series of phenomenological interviews with professionals working in the related areas at both corporations and eNGOs in Canada and the Netherlands. It will also propose a social exchange framework, describing the ongoing institutionalization process of sustainable corporate governance.
