Dr. Elaine Ori leads the Pro-MOTION (ProMO) Lab as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Health and Physical Education with the Faculty of Health, Community and Education at Mount Royal University. Dr. Ori is also an Adjunct Associate Professor in the Department of Community Health Sciences with the Cumming School of Medicine at the University of Calgary.
Elaine holds a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology, and has worked with a variety of populations as a Clinical Exercise Physiologist (Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology). As a practitioner, Elaine specialized in clinical populations, focused on injury rehabilitation and chronic disease management. Elaine then turned her attention to her graduate work which focused on the psychological influences that affect health cognitions and behaviours, primarily among emerging adults aged 18-29 years.
Elaine's research sits at the intersection of health psychology, behavioural medicine, and health communication. Her work is focused on understanding the cognitive and behavioural impacts of viewing popular media, in particular social media. Specifically, Elaine is interested in understanding how media, language and technology can improve or impede individual perceptions of health and related behaviours.
A mixed methods researcher, Elaine's primary interests centre around health misinformation, overcoming false or misrepresented health information, and promoting health to improve behaviour uptake and long-term adherence.
