Brian Jackson - Mount Royal University; Elizabeth Kreiter - Trinity Western University
10:15 - 11:00 AM - Keynote Address (slides - CC BY license)
Dr. Kristin Briney - California Institute of Technology
Are you tired of being told you have to "do RDM" without being told what that is in practical terms? Are you, frankly, a bit disinterested in the whole idea? Kristin Briney demystifies research data management practices, shares some practical tips, and shows you that RDM is a bit more interesting than you thought.
11:05 - 11:45 AM - RDM Landscape in Canada
Dr. Matthew Lucas - Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council
Research Data Management is a universal academic endeavour, but what does it look like in our immediate context? Hear from SSHRC's Dr. Matthew Lucas as he discusses RDM policy and practice from a uniquely Canadian perspective.
11:50 AM - 12:00 PM - Open Discussion

Concurrent Sessions
Choose your stream that most closely aligns with your role or area of interest, and reconvene afterward for a panel discussion.
Session 1 - Research Administrators
Victoria Smith - Digital Research Alliance of Canada
Dr. Matthew Lucas - SSHRC
How do you manage your data when the data is sensitive? How can non-PI stakeholders engage in RDM activities? Where does the burden of responsibility begin and end for ethics boards and research offices that find themselves promoting, reviewing, or managing DMPs?
Session 2 - IT Professionals
Jason Hlady - University of Saskatchewan (video)
From data collection to storage and preservation, there are myriad technologies behind good data management practices. This session will address some emerging technologies and services that support the research data management ecosystem in Canada.
Session 3 - Librarians
Kayla Lar-Son - University of British Columbia
Whether you are managing a data repository, curating data, or supporting other data management initiatives on your campus, there are important perspectives to consider when working with Indigenous data. Explore the management of Indigenous data, including data sovereignty, protocols, and ethical stewardship.
10:45 - 11:30 AM - Panel Discussion
Jason Hlady - University of Saskatchewan
Kayla Lar-Son - Indigitization, University of British Columbia
Victoria Smith - Digital Research Alliance of Canada
Matthew Lucas - SSHRC
9:00 AM - 12:00 PM - RDM in Practice: DMP 101
Nick Rochlin, Dr. Megan Lobay - University of British Columbia
Time to put everything you've learned into practice. The final session will feature an expert walkthrough of a data management plan followed by an opportunity for institutional teams to get together, in-person or remotely, to develop data management plans for emerging projects. Get your teams together, find out what each member can bring to the project, and start working on a plan. Guidance will be available from data management planning experts to help your team throughout the session.
