Our purpose is to enhance the hauora of our learners through connection to this place and their place in it.
Nā te hononga ki te whenua nei me tā rātou tūranga hoki, ka hikitia te hauora o ngā ākonga katoa.
The purpose of this poutama is to help kaiako (and other kaimahi in the education setting) make ongoing progress in learning and teaching te reo, tikanga and mātauranga Māori. It aligns with the Paritaha Kaitiaki Framework in making sure what and how we teach our tamariki is pono and tika, and that we teach these important kaupapa with integrity and competence. There are specific examples in each taumata, but they are only guidelines and you are not limited to only learning these kaupapa by any means! Every pipi bed will be different!
What to do: Make a copy of the document below. On your own copy, starting from the lowest taumata, highlight all the things you know and are able to do well.
How to move up the Poutama:
Click on the links provided on the things you haven't highlighted to learn and progress.
Regularly visit significant sites in our rohe/taiao to foster a deeper understanding and appreciation for our local environment.
Regular and ongoing professional learning and development for kaiako in learning te reo Māori, histories, pakiwaitara, and kōrero of wāhi whakahirahira.
Create strong partnerships with Ngāi Te Rangi and with your whānau, ensuring their voice and aspirations are included in all decision-making processes.
Embed the Paritaha Kaitiaki framework in all planning and teaching across the school.
Utilise the resources provided through Te Tai Whanake, Ngāi Te Rangi content, and our Kāhui Ako Google site.
Please note:
There may be things that you are able to do/have achieved across multiple taumata, but you have not moved up the poutama unless you have achieved all of kaupapa on the lowest taumata.
You may feel that you cannot move up the poutama in the Ngaiterangitanga column as you are teaching the content level that is relevant to the year level you are teaching. However, you yourself can learn the knowledge of the taumata above (even though you may not teach that content to your class).
Join Reon Tuanau and Aurere Thatcher on a haerenga, to learn about the wāhi whakahirahira (signifcant sites), pakiwaitara (stories) and history of Mauao.
Ngā mihi nui ki a Tessa Gray for making this amazing virtual tour of Tauranga Moana. You can find tonnes of information about the histories, wāhi whakahirahira (significant sites), pakiwaitara (stories) and marae in our rohe. Click on the link above.
