String Orchestra
Congratulations to Leo and Constantin Matros, who competed in an International Music Competition at New York and won First Place in the Chamber Music Category! They performed in Carnegie Hall on November 5 and were awarded Golden Classic Music Awards. Leo and Constantin are both principals in the orchestra and are members of the Chamber Orchestra!
Featuring pre-Baroque pieces and exciting tunes inspired by Croatian folk songs! The Mt. Lebanon String Orchestra will perform under the direction of Dr. Warren Davidson for an exciting night of global selections.
Lebo musicians excelled in the selective 2019 PMEA Honors Orchestra auditions. They will rehearse and perform November 16 and 17 along with others selected from around the Pittsburgh area.

Pennsylvania Music Educators Association (PMEA) is an affiliate of the 65,000-plus member National Association for Music Education (NAfME). The organization provides leadership in professional growth and offers special opportunities for musical development to school students.
District 1 includes over 550 school and private music teachers from Allegheny, Fayette, Greene, Washington and Westmoreland counties. An honors string orchestra, honors band and honors chorus are offered to student-musicians by competitive audition. District 1 festival musicians may advance to Region, All State, Eastern Division and National NAfME groups.

Dr. Warren Davidson is active in a wide variety of musical roles. He has served on the faculty of Slippery Rock University since 2001, teaching violin and viola lessons, conducting the SRU orchestra, and teaching courses in music theory and music history. He is concertmaster of the Westmoreland Symphony and the Academy Chamber Orchestra, music director of the Pittsburgh Civic Orchestra, and artistic director of Chamber Music at Old St. Luke’s and aonert Series at Central Presbyterian Church. He has an extensive background in chamber music ensembles including the prize-winning Aramis Quartet. Dr. Davidson’s musical interests range far beyond classical violin, with a special emphasis on folk music of the Balkan countries. Dr. Davidson earned a B.A. cum laude in Philosophy and Psychology at Duquesne University before turning to full-time violin study; his principal violin teachers were Alan Grishman and Efim Boico. He completed an MM in violin at Duquesne, an MA in Theory and Composition at the University of Pittsburgh, a Certificate of Advanced Studies in Chamber Music at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, and a Doctor of Musical Arts degree at West Virginia University where he was granted a Swiger Fellowship.
