Founded in 1927, the Mt. Lebanon High School Orchestra is the product of a supportive community and a strong fine arts program in grades 1-12. Approximately 200 students are divided between the Mt. Lebanon High School String Orchestra and the Mt. Lebanon High School Symphony Orchestra. In addition, students participate in the Chamber Orchestra, the Chamber String Orchestra, and numerous quartets and small ensembles. Orchestra members also play the music for all Mt. Lebanon High School musical productions.
Chamber orchestra members have had the privilege of attending masterclasses directed by Maestro Gianandrea Noseda of the National Symphony Orchestra in 2013 and 2011 and Maestro Manfred Honeck of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra in 2015, 2014 and 2012. In addition, the orchestra maintains a strong relationship with Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra members, who work with and perform for Mt. Lebanon Orchestra students. Each year, orchestra members participate in the Mt. Lebanon String Festival and have the honor of working with renowned violinist Sherry Kloss. Through the annual String Festival Scholarship, over $10,000 has been awarded to graduating seniors who participated in the festival.
