What is the goal of a school-wide writing project? 

To engage as many students as possible in low-stakes writing and add beauty to the English hallway.

Why do this? 

Too often we think of writing as an English class exercise for academic performance.  However, writing is an everyday thing.  It is expressive and can be a fun means of communication and unity.  Still, participation is optional.

Directions:

• Use a Canva bumper sticker template (but use your own words) or configure a bumper sticker’s standard dimensions of 11.5" x 3" on any color paper; submissions of any other size will not be displayed.

• Write largely and legibly or type in size 24 font or larger.

• Edit to avoid any and all errors; submissions with clear misspellings will need to be revised before being displayed.

• Write your name on the back of your submission. 

• Illustrate your work with whatever appropriate means and medium you choose.  

Timeline

• Early September: English teachers explain the school-wide writing project and potentially provide instruction on it and/or class time for it.

• Mid to late September: Submit a hard copy of your submission to your English teacher, even if you did the work on your own.  Follow the specific due date of the teacher if relevant.

• September 30: Teachers will give Mrs. Shine all school-wide writing projects so Mrs. Shine can ensure all creations are publication ready. 

• Early November: School-wide writing projects will be displayed on the 5th floor.
