Dawn Bernardo '25

Dawn is a junior at Mount Holyoke College majoring in Psychology and Education and pursuing a minor in Critical Race Political Economy. Rooted in her upbringing in New York City’s public education system, Dawn has followed her passion for youth advocacy and educational equity through community engagement. Not only is she academically  focused on fostering well-being and belonging in school systems through interdisciplinary coursework, but her dedication towards community care extends to her various campus involvements as a student leader. In addition to her role as a Senior Student Leadership Fellow at the Weissman Center for Leadership where she has supported fellow colleagues’ professional development, she has offered personal assistance as a Residential Advisor for two years at Brigham and Creighton Hall. Dawn is also Co-Chair of Liga Filipina, where she spearheads events aimed at building community and teach-ins that spread awareness about land dispossession in the Philippines. As an organizer and graphic designer of Growing Vines Collective, a BIPOC-centered group focused on food justice and environmentalism, she taps into her continued interest in environmental justice while fostering spaces for collaborative learning. Beyond these roles, Dawn takes pleasure in nature walks around campus, exploring different cuisines in the Pioneer Valley, investigating Mount Holyoke lore, and hanging out with her cat, Cora! As Dawn prepares to wrap up her Mount Holyoke College experience, she hopes to learn more about youth advocacy careers at the intersection of mental health and equity work.
