ACCESS
You must be trained and stamped off to use a Laser Cutter independently.
If you want to make something on the laser cutter but haven't gotten your laser cutter stamp yet, you can make a reservation to use it and work with staff to process your file.
BEFORE YOU MAKE YOUR RESERVATION you must have your completed file ready in Illustrator, Inkscape or PDF format.
TRAINING
Training for the laser cutter usually takes place over the course of several visits. During the initial visit, you will learn about the laser cutter interface, startup/shutdown procedures, safety protocols, and file management. You will also try cutting or engraving some material.
After the initial visit, we ask that you read through our laser cutter documentation. You must also book time on the laser cutter for supervised practice sessions.
Once you are comfortable with the equipment and have read our documentation, you can make an appointment to take the Laser cutter test and receive your stamp.
Training is available with the professional staff by making an appointment on Pathways or with student staff during Open Hours by prior appointment or as demand allows.
